One of Price's best, this casts him in the tailor made role of Dr. Anton Phibes, a horribly disfiqured musical genius and religious scholar who avenges the operating table death of his beutiful wife by murdering the doctors he holds responsible in grisly methods inspired by the old testement plagues. campy good fun, this sports a rich ambiance of 1920's art deco elegance and a cleverly inventive script perfectly suited to Price's arch, tongue - in - cheek screen image. The Abominable Dr. Phibes has become a cult classic over the years since its release in 1972. It is the quintessential revenge story of a great organist and truly mad genius who very cleverly extracts revenge against the surgical team who operated on his beautiful wife resulting in her untimely death. The art deco setting and the soundtrack are both superb. Fine cast, clever plot, Vincent Price at his horrifying best. Vincent Price was born to play the role a a crazed musician bent on getting revenge on the doctors that he blames for the death of his wife. The accident that caused her to die on the operating table also destroyed Dr. Phibe's face, by the way. The small touches that carry this film are absolute genius. You will shudder, but you will smile at the ingenious ways that Phibes comes up with to dispose of his enemies. Check this one out and have a good time with it!Movie Review: Come, Vulnavia! Wow is all I have to say. Well not really but its a start, I loved this film. And belive it or not the sequal is just as good if not better. This film is really creepy and falls into the Grand Guignol (geen-yol) catagory of horror films. While gore is kept to a minimium it is shown. A film called Theatre of blood was made after this also starring Price and it had the same revenge principal.Movie Review: great movie, great DVD

this is a great fun (and funny) horror movie. I was surprised at the quality of the video; sharp and clear with bright colors. Hardly any extras (just a trailer) but who cares? It's Dr. Phibes on DVD! Great price, great movie, great disc, who can ask for anything more? (well, how about Vincent Price's other great 70s horror movie "Theater of Blood" on DVD? I hope, I hope)
