Movie Reviews of The 24th DayMovie Review: Denial isn't just a River..... Summary: 4 Stars
Thought Provoking movie, packed with a clear and concise message. I was riveted the entire time, pondering the subject matter, wondering how it would turn out. I was unsure who to believe and who to root for, but in the end, you're left with empathy and sympathy for both characters. Both are destined to go through a terrible ordeal, regardless of what transpired and who did what or gave what to whom. I felt deeply for both characters and hoped that in the end, the diagnosis was wrong. But you can't romanticize it. It is what it is...and one must face the truth.
Although, it's a "gay" storyline, technically, it could apply to anywhere and anybody, straight or otherwise. It's not to preachy, or finger pointy (which I enjoyed), it simply gives one something to think about and it also states in very subtle, yet overt tones, you must protect yourself at every turn, because more than likely, you're truly the only one looking out for you!
I would recommend this movie, it's intense and real! Great Script. Great premise!
Movie Review: 24th day...and still more questions. Summary: 4 Stars
I'm not sure what the director or producer was trying to accomplish. Maybe something to fact that we all have complete control of our lives and we have choices that we make on our own accord. I think that was what the take home message was.
The movie started you off with so many questions about the characters. Then at the end you were left with the same questions on top of more questions. I think that the questions weren't really designed to be answered but more be analyzed within our our own social design.
The acting was okay and pretty much to be expected with the acting history of Scott Speidman and James Marsden. The only thing was that it just seemed like two straight guys acting in a gay role. So you could only see the actors and not the characters that they were trying to portray. Straight guys playing gay roles these days in hollywood is pretty much overrated.
Overall, the movie was good and very thought provoking. Makes you think about the gay social norms as well as the straight social norms.
Movie Review: Brilliant Performances Summary: 4 Stars
Scott Speedman and James Marsden have never been known for their acting skills. They are not bad actors by any means, but it was their good looks that made them popular. However, in 24th Day, these 2 actors turn in two of the most intense and honest performances of the year. The two star in this drama about a guy who is HIV+. One believes it's because he had a one night stand with the other, and he's the one who gave it to him. He kidnaps and holds him hostage until they find out the blood results. If he is negative, he's free to go. If he's positive he will kill him. This film is intense, suspensful, and heartbreaking. It gets a little too chatty at times, but the actors are so brilliant that it never gets boring. Highly recommended.
Movie Review: Very Surprising Summary: 4 Stars
This movie had the ability to instantly drag me into its story, I felt like i was there, and since thats what movies try to accomplish, they succeeded. A sense of nervousness comes right away as you see the story start to unfold. While the movie itself was shot in a simplistic manner, the characters more than spice it up. It keeps you guessing, there is no way to predict what would happen, and I loved that fact. Quite honestly, the end of the movie is the best part. I recommend this movie to anyone, gay or straight, its message clear and raw.
Movie Review: Guilt and Anger Summary: 4 Stars
It's a strong film. All filmed in a closed space, wich increases the intensity of the story. The story itself its rather simple: a curious married man has an one-time-only sex encounter with another man that he picks up in a bar.
Years later, his wife dies from aids. He blaims himself for that, and goes out for revenge. A classic of guilt and anger. You figure out the rest. I liked the film, the actors go very well.
