Movie Reviews of The 24th DayMovie Review: A tough thriller to watch - but an important addition to queer cinema Summary: 3 StarsThe fact that the dilemma in this film is 'did he or didn't he?', makes it really less about the gay connection between the two characters and more about gay shame and homophobia as it relates to HIV infection and the black cloud of 'responsibility' that drives Scott Speedman's character.
This is a tense little film from beginning to end and explores that niche in the cinema of the dance between captor and captured. Though it's not on the front pages of newspapers any more, this film rides the wave of anger and hostility to the gay community, portrayed by many camps as 'responsible' for spreading AIDS by behaving 'irresponsibly' or 'recklessly'. That's really what the central idea of this movie is, and it's riveting, as well as disturbing.
Fine performances by both leads (who are virtually the only two characters in the film) make it a worthwhile experience.
Movie Review: Great Film... Summary: 5 StarsThis movie I have to say is better than "Heights," in which, as in this one, James Marsden was an "in-the-closet" metro city pretty looking gay guy. Plot of the film keeps one enjoying it at every second. This movie is a highly recomended for those who like dramas.
Movie Review: Unsatisfactory Summary: 2 StarsThis was a bad movie despite the fact that James Marsden played a leading role.
Movie Review: Great suspense with violent and sexual tension Summary: 5 StarsThis is an absolutely amazing film from an acting perspective. It feels almost like a Hitchcock film. The storyline is somewhat suspenseful as you try to figure out what is happening, why its happening, and what will happen next. Wanted to see this when it was first available on DVD, but waited to see it on LOGO. Now I wish I had gotten the DVD when I first saw it.
Movie Review: Personal Responsibility Summary: 5 StarsThis movie broke the silence in the homosexual communities around personal responsibility. Who is at fault when someone becomes infected? The one who had unprotected sex with an unknown partner or the unknown partner who is sleeping with everyone carelessly? The acting was great. We felt the pain on both sides of the fence. Do we lash out at the person who infected us or do we accept what part we had in becoming infected? This movie also goes beyond and has us think of love ones who become affected by our decision. I added this movie to my collection. I highly recommend this to others.
