Movie Reviews of The 24th Day

Movie Review: EXCELLENT!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was soooo happy that I bought this movie. My partner and I really sat on the edge of our seats watching this movie. I have been out for many years, lived through the AIDS crisis and watching this movie, I was thinking about how real this movie really could be. I recommend it for anyone to watch and guarantee that it will have you on the edge of your seat too.

Movie Review: UGLY VIOLENCE TOWARD ANOTHER
Summary: 1 Stars

THIS MOVIE IS INTOLERABLY UGLY. THE REASON FOR KEEPING A MAN FOR 24 DAYS WAS TOTALLY UNREASONABLE.

Movie Review: A static bore
Summary: 1 Stars

The story did not have enough scene shift relief in its screen adaptation (it was a one set play). When there are essentially only two characters in a screenplay there should be some diversion of scenery from time to time which is why one is captivated by a film like "Sunset Boulevard" which is fundamentally a two person drama. However, Gloria Swanson and William Holden are afforded shifts of scenes away from the mansion where most of the action takes place so that the viewer does not feel "imprisoned". Also, neither of the two actors possess the allure of Swanson and Holden, nor does this insipid story pack the punch of that of screenwriter/director Billy Wilder.

Movie Review: A Truly Terrific Sleeper of a Film
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't for the life of me understand why this film didn't have a wider, longer run in theaters. To the best of my knowledge, it only played in one theater in New York for a few weeks and then went directly to DVD. Thank goodness for DVD & for Amazon, where you can buy it for so little!

This is a small but terrific film. Even though the film has more than two actors in the credits, it is basically a character study of only two men and how a single evening five years earlier may have changed, and perhaps will yet change, their lives forever.

I love films like this where, even at the end, it's hard to say which one of them is the hero/champion and which one is the villain. If you have any interest at all in the subject matter, this is time & money well spent!

Movie Review: Strong Independent Movie - Outstanding job by the actors!
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't expect too much when I rented the movie but I have to say that this movie was excellent! Both actors did a phenomenal job of keeping you on the edge and grabbing your attention throughout the movie. If it weren't for these two outstanding actors, this independent/low-budget movie would be non-existent.
I applaud Scott Speedman's performance of playing this character with great intensity and vulnerability. You cannot predict how Tom (Scott Speedman) will react and what course of action he will take. The emotional portrayal and internal conflict of Tom is acted out superbly by Scott!
James Marsden does an outstanding job with his performance as well. As the audience you are torn between extending sympathy for his extreme situation but at the same time you acknowledge his arrogance and lack of conscience.
The movie completely depends on the performance of these two actors and they've done an outstanding job. Be prepared for an emotional ride!
