Movie Reviews of That Girl - Season One

Movie Review: You Will Definitely Want to See--THAT GIRL!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember watching this show when I was a very little girl--I thought it was the epitome of fantastic-ness! Marlo Thomas, the star of the series, always looks so, I don't know--neat! Her hair is never messy, her clothing never has a wrinkle and is so ultra-ultra chic. Her character, Ann Marie, has this fantastic boyfriend--Donald Hollinger, played by the excellent Ted Bessell--I want to find a Donald Hollinger! He is always available for picnics and fun stuff, yet never seems to make unreasonable demands--wow! What a man! This DVD set is totally excellent--the quality is super--even the little bonus bits are fun. I particularly liked the section where Marlo Thomas reminisces about the making of the show with one of its creators--very enjoyable. I eagerly await That Girl season two!

Movie Review: Marlo the Magician
Summary: 5 Stars

Season 2 has a better opening than Season 1. Marlo Thomas had the rare talent to act over-the-top and not look like a ham doing it. She's an amazing actress, one of the most underrated ever, in my opinion. I also have never viewed her feminism as being ultra-liberal or mean-spirited, just seeking justice and equal rights for women. As a 44-year-old man, I view her as a visionary. The acting and script-writing for this series was awesome. Lew Parker - what an incredible actor he was. Ted Bessell was sensational, and Mabel Albertson - wow! One of the great old shows - they don't make them like that anymore. Actual stories in each episode, instead of one little theme with cheap attempts at sexual humor and cranked-up laugh tracks every five seconds on today's sitcoms.

Movie Review: WE LOVE YOU MARLO THOMAS
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great show. This first seasons got us through the summer and we can't wait for the second season to get here in November. I remember watching this show when it was first on and it has been a favorite ever since. Thank God for Ann Marie/Marlo Thomas because without her there would be no Mary Tyer Moore Show. That Girl is a classic and just plain funny funny funny. And we love and miss Ted Bessell, without him the show would not have been as funny or as good, the chemistry between them is better than any couple on TV today. November 14 is when the second season arrives and it can't come fast enough. A special thanks to Shout Factory for bringing us this classic series, keep the seasons coming!!!

Movie Review: A Big Yes to That Girl
Summary: 5 Stars

Great box set. It brought back alot of childhood memories of me and my older siblings watching this timeless classic on Thursday nights on ABC.It came on after Bewitched. Season 1 Ann Marie an aspiring actress meets and falls for Don Hollinger a writer for NewsView Magazine. It has some funny episodes that include Don meeting Ann's parents. And you know Murphy's Law, when anything can go wrong, well here it does hilariously. The show starred Marlo Thomas, Ted Bessell, Lew Parker, RoseMary DeCamp and Bernie Koppell of the Love Boat Fame. Can't wait for Season 2 to come out.

Movie Review: I can't get enough!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am having such a good time watching these shows again. In 1966, I was 11 years old, but I remember loving this show. Yes, the clothes! New York City! Donald! And Marlo Thomas looks fabulous. How pretty she is and the show is hilarious. The packaging on this box set is eye candy and the extras are great. This is how a DVD TV show set should be. My 15 year old daughter is already in love with Ann Marie. And this is the kind of show you can enjoy with your kids. Heck, even my hubby loves this show. A great price for such wonderful memories!
