Movie Review: Just a local of the movie Summary: 4 Stars
Being from and still living in Tulsa, Ok, I had this movie on vhs which over the years couldn't watch anymore. This movie is pretty much the way I grew up, except about 10 years before their time. There are scenes in the movie of landmarks that used to here in Tulsa and have since been forced to be torn down, which one was Bell's amusement shown at the fair. Now the fairgrounds is still their but it's not the same. There was a scene at a mall which over the years has grown bigger ad not the same. And last of all the Camelot hotel which looked like a castle, which at one time was really a luxury hotel where many famous people stayed, and it was really sad to me to see it being torn down, but thanks to films the memories of times gone by well never fade. As also the outsiders filmed here with the drive in movie with the grace of everything going for it, it is still there. But in my opinion these may not be movies for the rich and famous that don't understand what life could have been like as it is portayed in the movie, it does happen, and seeing Matt Dillon, Emilio Estevez and Meg Tilly in their younger days and actually being here when these movies were made makes an Okie boy proud!
Movie Review: Read the Book First Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great movie for young people. I read the book when I was a teenager, and it was nice to refresh my memory of the story, which is portrayed well in this movie. However, if you are a young person considering watching this movie, I recommend you read the book first. It isn't as daunting as some other books that were made into movies. It is an easy read, and you won't regret letting your imagination draw the pictures first. When you see the movie first, the characters are already formed in your mind when you read the book.
Movie Review: tex Summary: 4 Stars
I showed this movie as a reward to a class of reluctant high school readers following the reading of the book Tex. The kids liked it. The movie followed the plot and setting of the novel very well. The movie had Tex conceal Mason's letter of acceptance to college (not in the novel), which was out of character for Tex. I appreciated the exclusion of the drunken party scene at the oldest Collins' son apartment. The actors were well-cast except for the character Mason--his performance was flat.
Movie Review: STAY GOLD PONYBOY...... Summary: 3 Stars
Oops,Got My S.E. Hinton's confused there for a moment..I'm okay now,let us proceed...Another big-screen adaptation drawn from the quadrilogy of junior high must-reads written by Ms. Hinton,This was the only one delivered to us by the Walt Disney Studios. That fact is of particular note since there are scenes that involve both guns and drugs,And neither Kim Richards or Burt Convy are anywhere to be found!--Watching the film today,it doesn't work as well as it did 22 years ago,but then I'm 22 years older(ouch!)and look at film in a way I didn't(or couldn't)back then..The kids will enjoy it,and you will enjoy sharing it with them-So own it!....Just make sure you purchase the Disney edition as it is remastered and presented in widescreen for your protection.....
