Movie Review: Enjoyably Quirky But Never Quite Fulfills Promise
Summary: 3 Stars

Loosely based on the novel by James Robert Baker, TESTOSTERONE is the story of Dean Seagrave (David Sutcliffe), a graphic novelist who hasn't scored a popular work in some time--but who finds roundabout inspiration when his Latin lover Pablo (Antonio Sabato) goes out for a pack of cigarettes and never comes back. Why did he go and where can he be?

The answer unravels when Dean encounters Pablo's hateful mother (Sonia Bragio) at an art gallery and follows her to the family home in Argentina, where he receives grudging assistance from an attractive waitress (Celina Font) and her sexy brother (Leonard Brzezicki.) But all is not as it seems, and when Dean goes over the edge in his obsession the result is both wickedly funny and positively deadly.

TESTOSTERONE bills itself as a sexy black comedy, and the cast does indeed fit the bill; leading men Sutcliffe, Sabato, and Brzezicki are handsome beasts and Bragio and Font are stunning women, and they all play with a convincing touch. The problem is the script, which never quite fulfills its promise, and the film's final punch essentially requires the viewer to put two and two together and come up with five. Recommended, but only just.

Movie Review: If anything, rent this for the full frontal of Saboto Jr.!
Summary: 3 Stars

The men cast are hot, hot! Too bad we didn't get to see more of the bellboy in action. With all seriousness, I found myself drifting in parts wondering where else could this story have gone to make it more interesting and believable. I didn't see the significance of Sofia's character but enjoyed Pablo's Argentian boyfriend's (Sofia's brother) involvment in the story. What I didn't get was why his character committed suicide when he appeared so confident and cocky before his death. Maybe it was because he was expected to kill Dean and couldn't do it? That part of the plot was a little confusing. However, stepping into Dean's character, I can understand the obsession of wanting unanswered questions answered when a lover walks out on you with no explanation because I have been there. If you have ever been in a sitution like this, you may appreciate the movie more than others. That was the driving force of me renting. Not to mention seeing Saboto Jr. naked and him being intimate with another man. Coolidge is great and the comic strip at the beginning was amusing as well! Not the greatest gay themed movie ever but FAIRLY good on the obsession with another human being level.

Movie Review: Good Intentions, Poor Presentation
Summary: 3 Stars

Like most indie movies, this film would've looked alot better in the cinema (had it been shown here). The transfer of both the sound and vision were so mediocre that it was almost like watching a bootlegged version of the film's original DVD. The DVD cover art could really use some proper redesigning as well.

Because of the low quality transfer and the lack of any English subtitles, I ended up having to rewind some of the heavily accented lines, which gave me a bad first impression of the movie. A second watch was definately more enjoyable and believable, even though every men in this movie looked like they fell off the cover of a GQ magazine.

Taking away all the (ridiculous) sexual situations/scenes, the acting was good, the presentation and direction of the film was somewhat decent (in a fantasy world of an infuriated ex-lover); putting the bad transfer aside, I would recommend any fan of david sutcliffe to give this movie a try (antonio s. jr. had less screen time than all the female characters combined) , if just to pass a lazy sunday afternoon.

Movie Review: Good movie overall
Summary: 3 Stars

I like this movie for only two reasons: the potential the plot had and how well david sutcliffe plays the character of Dean. [jennifer coolige was funny too]
the plot was a thriller and did keep you guessing for a bit. i expected something different from the ending of the movie and from some other parts of the movie. I was disappointed Dean killed Pablo. If he redeemed himself in some way, it would have been better. Pablo's response and interaction with Dean in argentina was binary and could have been a MUCH BETTER SCENE.
Marcos's acting was unimpressive(he was involved in The Glue, an intriguing bildungsroman).
anyways, there are also many positive points to the movie, the biggest of which to me, personally, is the dilineation of gay men
im sick of depiction of gay men as flamboyant wimps in glamor. this is a more masculine look ive been craving to see.

Movie Review: Not Formatted!!!
Summary: 3 Stars

I can't believe in all of the reviews no one has mentioned the horrible formatting -- or lack thereof -- of this DVD. I saw this film at the Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and loved it. David Sutcliffe, I predict, will be a huge star (And he's no so bad to look at either). However, when I rented this DVD I was appalled to find that the film was not formatted for TV viewing. Because of this, the opening sequence that sets up the movie is unwatchable, as much of the wording and pictures on the screen are cut off. And it only gets worse from there as every scene has the left and right of the frame cut off. For shame!! I stopped watching after 30 minutes and returned it to the video store.

I would have given this a 5 star rating if not for the horrible lack of formatting. I gave it 3 stars only because I originally liked the film. Buyer/renter beware...
