Movie Reviews of Tequila SunriseMovie Review: A Fantastic Look At The Early Melvin Gibson Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie when it was originally released in the early 1980s, and thought it GREAT, simply superb. I definitely remembered Kurt and Michelle appearing in it, but I had completely forgotten that it was an early Melvin Gibson flick. At this stage of his career, even for his exemplary "The Road Warrior," Melvin presented a rather low-key stage presence. Melvin had not yet perfected the face-making, eye-rolling, occasional chicken-cackling histrionic techniques that imbued his "Lethal Weapon" series with such Oscar-quality richness.Melvin Gibson fans will enjoy seeing this, a snippet from Melvin's earlier days and a testimony to how much Melvin's acting stature has grown since then. He is a Theater Titan, a National Treasure of American Cinema. Melvin Gibson is what other actors such as Lawrence Olivier, Marlon Brando and Buddy Hackett only DREAMED of becoming.
Movie Review: Tequila Sunrise Summary: 5 Stars
Mac Mckussic is an unlikely drug dealer who wants to go straight. His old and best friend Nick Frescia is now a cop who is assigned to investigate and bring him to justice. Mac is very attracted to Jo Ann, the owner of a stylish restaurant. Nick gets close to Jo Ann attempting to know more about Mac's drug dealing plans and his connections with the Mexican dealer Carlos, who the police believe is coming to town to meet with him. Nick also falls for Jo Ann's charms and his friendship with Mac is in danger. This movie is all about what was great about the 80's. "Tequila Sunrise" has a complex plot, one where the motives of all the characters are suspect and where nobody knows whom they can trust. Interesting plot setup and although dated, very enjoyable.
Movie Review: A Real Classic Summary: 5 Stars
Like many of the other reviewers, this is one of my all time favorite movies. It's the kind of movie that would make me want to go to the theater if it were playing today. It's got that same film noir feeling as classics from the 40's. The chemistry amongst the three main characters is great, the story and settings are compelling, and for the ladies in the audience, Mel & Kurt are looking their best! The only fault I can find with this movie, which I only noticed because I've seen it so many times, is when Michele Pfeiffer's character claims not to know Mel Gibson's character's first name ... by the time this scene comes around she's heard it many times. Other than that, I think it's perfect!
Movie Review: One of the 2 best movies of the 80-s... Summary: 5 Stars
The best performance of Kurt Russel ever, maybe the best of Michelle, fantastic Raul Julia and always correct J.T. Walsh. It is definetely not the best performance of Mel but alltogether under the guidance of Thom Mount and Bob Towne these people made a magical job - they made a movie where every bit, every second and every frame is a masterpiece (well - certainly there were more people involved). One need to see it several times to discard its "detective" tag - it is definetely not a detective. Than what is it? Just see it and answer yourself...
Movie Review: Romance anyone?? Summary: 5 Stars
This movie bombed at the box office but I rented it anyway because I am a huge Mel Gibson fan. In my opinion, Mel looks hotter in this movie than any others he's been in. I absolutely LOVED this movie. I am a hopeless romantic and this movie has it all. Granted, the plot may not be entirely realistic and may be about a former drug dealer, but I don't go to the movies to see perfect people in perfect situations. This is my all time favorite movie and I recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance with action in the mix :-)
