Movie Review: There's a Lesson For Us All
Summary: 5 Stars

After seeing this movie I now appreciate my own high school days even though I hated the experience at the time. Like this movie alcohol & drug abuse were in abundance at Starmount High. We also had student pranks too. But never anything serious enough to call on the local police to handle. And no one ever brought guns to school that I knew of. It makes me glad to be raised in small town America during the 1970's when crime wasn't much of a problem. In Teachers the staff of JFK High & the school board are being sued by a former student who went all the way through the school system but he can't read or write. Nick Nolte plays Alex Jurel a teacher burnt out by the school system. His other film credits include Return To Macon County (1975) 48 Hours (1984)& the Incredible Hulk (2003). Jobeth Williams plays Lisa Hammond a former JFK student. She is now a lawyer for the student filing the lawsuit. Morgan Freeman also appears as a school board member. Royal Dano plays Ditto JFK's most boring teacher. I'm not sure but this may be one of Dano's final film roles. His earlier work includes a few guest shots on tv's Bonanza. Richard Mulligan is Hilarious as an escapee from a mental hospital posing as a history teacher. Mulligan is perhaps best remembered for the sitcom Soap. Allen Garfield plays a teacher named Mr. Rosenberg. Garfield's earlier roles include a 1970's episode of Gunsmoke titled The Fires Of Ignorance. Ironically he plays a school teacher here. The plot of this episode is nearly identical to Teachers. Judd Hirsch plays vice principal Rubell. Hirsch is best known for the sitcom Taxi. William Schallert-how could we forget that name? Here he plays principal Horn. His earlier tv work includes Professor Promfitt on The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis Martin ''Poppo''Lane on The Patty Duke Show & The New Gidget tv series(early 1980's). Schallert has also done many many other tv guest roles & movies too many to list here. Ralph Macchio plays Eddie Pilikian a student with a huge learning problem. Macchio's best known roles are The Outsiders(1983) & The Karate Kid trilogy(1984-1989)& My Cousin Vinny(1992). Not much has been heard of him since. Crispin Glover plays Danny Reece a scared guy who's a bit psycho. Glover's other roles include My Tutor(1983) & the Back To The Future trilogy(1985-1990). Like Ralph Macchio Glover did a few roles in between but he hasn't been heard from recently. Laura Dern plays a student who gets pregnant by a teacher. She went on to star in the Jurassic Park movies. She hasn't been heard of in quite awhile now. Teachers is an entertaining movie that exposes everything that's wrong with school systems today. It's also a very funny movie too. Enjoy!

Movie Review: Scary and prophetic, but funny
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is a good comical slap at the decaying state of education and what it means for the country. And a good comedy along the way.

It brings up the analogy that modern schools are still too close to the cliche "Factory" era schooling that was made to get the working class just literate enough to operate equipment but keep them too uncreative to revolt. But beyond that, another neat modern comment about them made in it too.

I won't spoil it. It's when Nick Nolte goes to cheer up his friend after he's had part of his hand bitten off... Funniest part of the whole movie!!!

Movie Review: Scary but true!
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember when this movie came out and I couldn't imagine school being this way. As a teacher in the 21st century...it's so true! Regardless of the humor it shows, it hits close to home. The best teachers are the crazy ones who go beyond the book, the ones who care and the ones who are creative....and those are the ones who get chastised! Loved this movie originally and love it more now. The biggest piece of fiction in this movie? Starting as late as 8:00am...yeah right. I wish!

Movie Review: Nick Nolte at his finest
Summary: 5 Stars

Outrageously funny, deeply dramatic and intensely human, Teachers blows the lid off America's troubled public schools. Nick Nolte delivers an exceptional performance as a teacher burned out after years of struggling with the system. JoBeth Williams is the feisty lawyer and alumni who awakens both his ideals and his lost mojo. As the savvy but unnerving vice-principal, Judd Hirsch is impetuous as he heads a fine supporting cast.

Movie Review: a cause for respect learned a long time ago
Summary: 5 Stars

It has been a long time since I have seen this. But I remember the effect it had on me. It made me respect my teachers even more. Folks seem to forget about teachers as heroes. This movie as others have written. is funny but still rings true today. A simpler time when teachers DIDNT have to carry concealed or wear body armor.
