Movie Reviews of Tarzan V.1

Movie Review: Tarzan v.1
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a bit bias when it comes to Gordon Scott's Tarzan films, as I have always believed that he
was the only one who ever portrayed Tarzan as Edgar Rice Burroughs intended him to be. He was
strong, deadly, rared with instincts to survive in the wild, but intelligent by birth-right.
Then educated into the civilised world with a fortune behind him. He had the best of both
worlds, and used them.

"Tarzan and the Trappers" starts with Tarzan putting Schroeder behind bars for illegally trapping
animals in his forest. This take up about half of the movie, which is a shame.

Schroeder's brother decides he will hunt Tarzan for doing so, but he makes two mistakes before
the hunt even begins. He gives Tarzan two hours before he starts the hunt, and the other is to
hunt Tarzan in his own domain. This is deadly for any hunter, but he is an arrogant, egotistical
maniac who thinks he is better than someone who was born in the jungle and rared to track animals.
Can any one explain to me how someone can track another person (Tarzan) who can swing through the
trees and leave no trace? It is laughable.

From here the movie is more about the lost city of Tabo and hunting Tarzan is just a side quest.
The hunters have no hope in Hades of catching Tarzan. Schroeder's brother is in camp bragging about
how great a hunter he is, and how many men he has to help him, while Tarzan is in the bushes
listening. Tarzan then rolls one of the natives he captured into the camp and everyone goes
crazy.

As the hunters arive in the lost city, Tarzan starts to pick them off one at a time, and when he
takes on the five hunters I believe it is an even match, as the hunters rely on their guns only.

At the end Cheeta destroys Tarzan's hope of having a feed of eggs, that Jane had prepared for them
all, by eating the whole dishful.

In "Tarzan and the Green Goddess", Tarzan (Herman Brix) is in Gautamala to find an idol called
the Green Goddess and return it to the so-called civilised world, but Raglan has other plans.

The party goes on ahead and Tarzan stops to help a doe with a stone in its paw, but a leopard
wants it for lunch and attacks Tarzan. Too bad for the leopard though.

Raglan beats Tarzan to the river and gets on a river-boat, but Tarzan and his party catches up
to him in Puerto-Barrios by catching another river-boat.

Tarzan has a fight with three men in Raglan's room and is knocked off the second floor balcony
and lands on his back. But Tarzan has more lives than the jungle animals he plays with, and is
soon on Raglan's trail again.

Meanwhile, worshippers from the Dead City set forth to recover their sacred idol.

There is some comic relief when George is playing with a turtle and is bitten on the posterior by
another turtle (By george they could move fast for turtles).

Tarzan's party is captured by the worshippers and sentenced to death if they can not produce the
idol. Later Tarzan is also captured and sent to the lion's pit, but escapes with the help of Ula
Vale, a friend.

After they escape a friend of Ula's informs them that Raglan is in Mantique, so Tarzan heads off
in search of him. Tarzan saves the goddess and gets on board a river-boat unknownly with Raglan,
but Raglan is in trouble with the captain, and is told to stay in his cabin.

On the voyage Mother Nature steps in and makes life difficult for everyone. Raglan is shot and
the boat almost sinks, but with the help of a life-raft they escape to Greystone Manor.

The secret formula that was hidden in the idol is considered too dangerous for any man to have
and is destroyed by fire.

So ends another Tarzan adventure.

The start of "Tarzan of the Apes" is exactly the same as "Tarzan and the Trappers" except for the
music score, and a different Tarzan.

To me, silent movies are a challenge to understand what they are saying, and I love the challenge,
but one thing annoys me is the music playing all the time. One time I turned the sound off and
watched a silent movie, and the experience was for the better.

When, as a boy, Tarzan comes upon the Greystone cabin, he starts to comprehend the meaning of
books, the knife and other people like him (white) is the start of his inherited intelligence.

As the film progresses Elmo Lincolm takes the helm as Tarzan. This part of the story starts with
Tarzan punishing a native chief for killing an ape, and the natives try to appease the white
devil with offerings.

After Jane and her party find the cabin in the forest, Jane is attacked by a lion and runs into
the cabin. Tarzan kills the lion and is spotted by Jane's father while doing so.

Later Jane is carried off by a native, but is rescued by the man she is seeking - Tarzan. While
this is happening the rest of the party is lost in the jungle and attacked by natives. Hearing
gun shots, Tarzan investigates, and decides to torch the village (of which I couldn't see any
women or children), thus saving the party.

While the rescue party are trying to find Jane, Tarzan protects her and eventually returns her
to the cabin, where Jane declares her love for him. END.

The three films on this dvd are a contrast in the different concepts (and time-frames) of Tarzan
and although I have a few personal beefs with them I still enjoyed the movies. I give this dvd 6
stars, because it had three movies and all considered, not a bad dvd to add to one's list.
