Movie Reviews of TangoMovie Review: Another Saura Triumph in Stunning Cinematography Summary: 4 Stars
Argentinian Director Carlos Saura turns a simple, age-old theme of art, love, and betrayal into a visual feast of color and motion. The protagonist moves through an inextricably intertwined plot as his life imitates his art. After compromising both he settles for the attainable, and in the case of his art (producing and directing an elaborate play), for the sublime. But the sublime in "Tango" is not the plot...it is the consistent, relentless beauty of color and form that makes the movie a "must see" for those with an eye for and love of, the truly beautiful.
Movie Review: Watch your step Summary: 4 Stars
Who cares about the simple plot of this movie? Loss of a marriage and the attraction of an older man to a younger woman (ho hum, yawn).
This film is all about the dancing! The music is a delightful bonus to the real action: the steps and drama of different routines and practice sessions. Sumptuous lighting enhances the dancers. But the student of tango will want to watch parts of this movie again and again to refine hand gestures, attitudes, and of course the intricate steps of this gorgeous, heated dance of passion.
Movie Review: Performance Tango Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good film about putting an Argentine tango production number together. It's NOT about ballroom or salon tango. The routines are fine, but not much you can use in a ballroom. The plot is OK. The women dance very well. The older men dance best. The musicians are fantastic; it's the best part of this movie. I enjoyed the disc commentary too. Check out "The Tango Lesson". It's also a great tango film.
Movie Review: A great experience Summary: 4 Stars
Tango is a very good movie, where music and dance and light and the background story mix all the time, like in a caleidoscope, providing surprising new colors and textures, scene after scene.
Saura also rediscovers how sensual this dance can be, and its capacity to express the subtilities and complexities of human love.
Movie Review: Learn to dance Argentine Tango from this movie Summary: 4 Stars
Beginners - you will have troubled following most of the material even with the rewind and slow motion buttons.Intermediate/Advance Learners - you will get some good ideas. Accomplished Amateurs - you will see nothing new. As a movie, the story line is very simple and not particularly moving, but it was beautifully done.
