Movie Review: Vinnie was the man!
Summary: 5 Stars
True classics of the genre, and an incredible value, this is a 'double feature' of movies based on the works of Poe and Hawthorne. The first movie did a fine job of incorporating Poes work onto the screen. My fave was the hybrid tale of the Black Cat/Cask of Amontillado, which even added into it a touch of "gallows" humor (couldnt resist that one). The other stories worked just as well, of note the Strange Case of M. Valdemar, with Nigel Rathbone (of Sherlock Holmes fame) thrown in for good scary measure. The second movie, Twice Told Tales, was good also. Vinnie Price and friends were in fine form, but for those of you old enough to remember, what is Mr French from the old TV show 'Family Affair' doing trying to scare me? These are the movies I enjoyed as a young kid watching on a late Saturday night with my friends, or as a teenager with a girl snuggled up alone in a darkened house for the "full" effect! For youngsters who never read Poe (or Hawthorne for that matter), I would hope that these movies at least stoke interest in reading these masters as they did mine (though these movies are alot of fun, I am a believer that books are always best). These movies are great fare and fun to share.
