Movie Reviews of Take the Lead

Movie Review: Real Ballrom Dancing
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, this move's basic plot is not original and it may have too many sub plots, but I am still giving it 5 stars. It has two qualities that give it this rating: dance content and commentary.

This move does the best job of presenting true social ballroom dancing; the how and why of ballroom dance. Like all the other ballroom films, this one also ends with a competition, but at least it does not take it too seriously.

The commentary of the Director Liz Friedlander and the Editor Robert Ivison is not only the normal pitter pat of funny things that happened during filming, but also has a lot of commentary of film making. If you are interested in camera shots, lighting, editing, and etc., this is the best DVD commentary that I have heard on this subject.

Movie Review: I liked it
Summary: 5 Stars

Antonio Banderas made Take the Lead such a good movie. No question about it. His character was great. It's about him able to take a bunch of trouble maker teens and give them something to believe in, which allows the teens to want to dance and continue dancing until they get really good and ready for the competition at the end.

It was a good movie because Antonio Banderas's character was nice and calm and very intelligent, and was able to prove the people wrong who didn't believe he'd be able to help troubled teens. Sure, this is basically a sports movie about no-talented high school dropouts who originally hate everyone and everything, and turn them into talented believers (with a happy ending) but it's still worth watching.

Movie Review: Great Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I just want to say that this was a great movie. It reminded me of the others, "Shall We Dance", "Step Up", "Save The Last Dance", "Stomping At The Savoy" and the list could go on and on. Antonio was at his best as the dance instructor. The students were outstanding and also was Alfre Woodard. The little teacher who didn't want it to succeed, he was a character that they could have done without, but there is one in every bunch who wants everything new to fail. Just because they were not warming up to him and doing what he wanted them to do, he wanted it to fail. I am so glad that Antonio kept pushing them to succeed. Rob Brown stands out in any movie he is in. Good Actor. Like I said, "Great Movie".

Movie Review: Great Story, Great Dancing
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a sucker for dance movies. I saw the original LET'S DANCE in Japanese long before the Richard Gere-Susan Sarandon version hit the silver screen.

TAKE THE LEAD starring Antonio Banderas is fabulous. I saw it in the theater and now it's available on DVD. It's a true story based on the contribution of Pierre Dulaine who started a ballroom dancing program in New York City public schools.

If the tango scene between Antonio and Morgan leaves you untouched, then you better check to see if you still have a pulse.

Great music. Great story. Great dancing. Get your own copy. I did.

Movie Review: Time to take out your dancing shoes
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a great movie. I had never seen it before and everyone has been trying to get me to watch it. I finally sat down and watched it. And I couldn't get enough of it. I would have to say out of the entire movie, the ending was the best part. From when they entered the competition to the last tango. I had a blast and it kept me on my toes. Literally I am now back in dance class. I showed my class this movie and almost all of them went to buy it. I adore this movie. Thank you Amazon for being so convenient. : )
