Movie Reviews of THX 1138 (Two-Disc Director's Cut Special Edition)Movie Review: Lucas the revisonist? Au contraire, monsieur Popster... Summary: 5 Stars
It seems to me that the tripe you're feeding your imaginary audience is nothing short of a thinly-veiled attempt to seduce them into joining your OWN revisionist movement intent on returning to "the good ol' days"...whenever they were...
THX-1138 is near the top of my all-time favorite list of movies and I remember every detail of the night I saw it. I was 21 and my girlfriend and I drove my VW bug with the rotted out canvas sunroof from the City (San Francisco) down to the San Carlos Drive In where it was paired with The Omega Man. WOW. It was BITTER cold that night but after we saw THX there was NO question: we were going to stay for the second showing. It's been Number One on my wish list for a long time and I would've been SORELY disappointed if Lucas hadn't updated it to take advantage of every WATT of the 500 powering my 7.1 THX surround system and every MEGAPIXEL on my Sony HiDef widescreen ...I didn't spend thousands of dollars on hardware so I could stretch to distortion the new colorized version of "It's a Wonderful Life."
Pop, you've posted reviews here in three genres, all of them negative. I doubt by your bluster that your qualifications include renowned photographer, accomplished musician AND film director, so you've either been frustrated in your attempts to succeed in these fields or simply one of those who aren't happy unless they can find SOMETHING to complain about. Don't get me wrong, it's FINE by me that your 25" Sears Kenmore console TV with built in AM tuner, record changer with beefy new spindle that can deliver nearly a full hour from a full spindle of 78RPM records. And you weren't lyin' when you said you got, how'd you say it..."uninteruppted glorious monoural sound from the beefy TWIN 6" speakers, and nearly infinite control of the spatiality because Sears was thoughtful enough to include not only a TONE, but BASS control as well!" Them words sound funny...whut do they mean? Oh, never mind...all I knows is them Sears folks are purty darn smart 'bout TV's and other lectric stuff. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to hook up that laser gun TV player thingy...the one kinda like the Bell & Howell Aunt Esther made us watch them home-concocted movies with...cep'n, instead of showin in on the white wall you figgered a ways to hook it to the adaptor Aunt Mabel got for FREE with her 17" black and white back in '81. Howz that thing DO that anyway...playin them big silver TV records with all them rainbows in em? I wuz thinkin HARD 'bout what you said t'other day...thought about it almost all night too...and guess whut? I figgered out that cuz each and ever one of them records has 30 minutes on it, that means you only have to stop the movie...wait a minit...I thought this all out and I KNOWS the anser....yeah, I member now...the movie only stops four times so's you change it to the other side. And you know whut else? You shore were right about the pitcher bein' better'n ever when you done figgered out all you gotta do is turn them color, brigthness and contrast knobs up all the way. Ah'm tellin' you Pop, you oughta' stop at the Sears catalog store next time you take Fern to get her bunions cut off and tell 'em bout a couple of them idees you got...nyuck...can you 'magin gettin dressed up in that silk poly-ever clip on tie ever day and goin to your own fancy schmancy office? They'd prolly pay you as much as the PRESIDENT gets but all you gotta do is sit there and come up with new idees bout stuff that EVERBODY would buy. I bet even all them po' folks down in the holler would make up extry moonshine so's they could get the lectric wires put in. I bet they would if'n they heard bout some of your fancy idees.
Picture this, POP: Lucas in pre-production meetings planning the THX-1138 product..."And since there's ALWAYS some throwback who's going to complain whatEVER we do, I want to release a second CD with the ORIGINAL theatrical release.. simultaneously with the 2-DVD product. That'll knock the wind right out of their sails. Maybe we should hold back on announcing it for a few weeks...and see how many of them make fools of themselves trashing the Director's Cut. OK, folks, lets make a DVD!"
