Movie Reviews of T. Rex: Born To BoogieMovie Review: It's Wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
First off, I'm not a huge T Rex fan, or I shoueld say, I wasn't one before I purchased this DVD. I randomly came across it on my TV for; it was being given away as part of a fundraiser for Public TV. I bought it the next day, since I really didn't care about Long Island Public TV, being from Jersey.
That said, the DVD is amazing. Bolan is a light that shines, and one I didn't know enough about.
The movie portion, "Born to Boogie" is a bit weird, in the Pink Floyd kinda way, yet more comical. The Elton John and Ringo Starr parts are very interesting. But for me it's more about the two LIVE concerts that accompany the DVD. Both are amazing.
The energy Bolan brings to the table, the camera angles, the footage, the sound, everything. It's just awesome. He exudes fun, life, and graciousness.
The audience is blown away by his music and vibe, and frankly, that's what did it for me.
Anyone who is a fan of singer songwriters, whether it be Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Stephen Malkmus, or even Gene Ween, will absolutely love this DVD.
Movie Review: What we've waited 32 years to see Summary: 5 Stars
Bolan at his best. No question: If there was any doubt in your mind; this set proves once and for all that Bolan indeed rocks. Silliness between live and live-in-studio pieces (which was not at all inappropriate for that time) notwithstanding. What you're likely expecting is the film we US T. Rex fans (I know there must be at least one or two of you) missed in 1973, but what you get, in addition, is dynamite live footage which crackles with all the energy you'd expect, given Bolan's rep of this period, plus documentaries, still more live footage and even some archival material. As a US fan since 1969, this makes me feel a bit vindicated and that it's been worth the wait after all, even though I'm still a little miffed we didn't get it fresh. But that should come as no surprise, considering the American press to this day don't get Bolan, and I imagine, never will. (Read the "official" review for this set.) Whether hippie prophet or groove rocker, Bolan was master. I hardly need mention, if you're a fan, you'll want this.
Movie Review: Great Fun Summary: 5 Stars
T Rex were never fully appreciated here in the U.S.....they were not "heavy" enough like Zeppelin or Purple and were not "pop" enough like The Osmonds, Partridge Family. They were just a fun band with a charismatic leader...certainly original or if you prefer, unique. I first heard Hot Love in 1970 when I was 15. Had no idea what it sounded like just bought the 45 at the only place in town that had even heard of them. The single had been No.1 in Great Britain for what seemed like forever and I wanted to know WHY. Have loved Bolan/T Rex ever since! To this day I still buy and collect the CD's and am constantly looking for "new" items....especially the "live" footage. T Rex comes across much differently to me Live. T.Rex performed live all over the world but I was never fortunate to catch them...He was definitely Born To Boogie and Born To Be A Rock Star.....Simple kick ass rock and roll music! FANtastic!
Movie Review: T. Rex finally gets the DVD treatment they deserve! Summary: 5 Stars
This is fricking awesome. They did a lot of work on this. Before
it was all crappy & sucky looking. Now they cleared up the picture & sound. Thanks to Tony Visconti. Ringo Starr must have been really crazy. Also in this film, it features Elton John. It's really a good movie.
I so much don't really like BORN TO BOOGIE the movie, but I like the single concert itself. No interuptions & it's the full version. In the BORN TO BOOGIE movie, they skip a lot of songs. What's cool about this concert is that they show a good amount of the fans. I like their concert versions of their songs better because they're much cooler & longer.
The special features are good too. I like some of the outtakes, the interviews with Rolan Bolan are supberb & the documentary is great. All in all this is the greatest music DVD on the earth. They gave this the #1 treatment. They should have any way!
Movie Review: You can Terreplane... Summary: 5 Stars
This actually made me cry. A work of art. If... by chance you are even slgithly interested in T. Rex... spend the money... now. I was skeptical because of all the "trash" that has come out since Marc's passing... but this is a whole differnet story. Beautifully restored. You feel like you are there! All the extra's are great. They show how hard it was to restore this film... and I for one did not know how hard it was indeed to take on on such a task. There is much inside information on Marc as a person I did not know that made me feel closer and appriciate him more. I've been a serious fan since 1980. He was a true artist. Anyway... It's beyond cool and from the packing to the final credits it's worth the price. Long Live Marc!
