Movie Review: BOLANS HOLY GRAIL
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow..this is awesome!! Currently on vacation here in jolly olde England and just had to buy this DVD !! You will not be disapointed..its the ULTIMATE BOLAN EXPERIENCE !!Whoever put this together deserves a Knighthood..its not just the Born To Boogie movie which has been cleaned up and looks Fab..sounds Fab

.Us Rexers have seen it a million times on poor VHS or Bootleg..Its the Extras that just blow you away...The 5.30 afternoon concert is Bolan at his best..the colors, sound, energy is unbeleivable.Marc was only 24 when he strutted his stuff and boy does he look likes hes having a blast.I forgot how Beautiful Mickey Finn was..its such a shame that they are no longer here..

How this film has rotted in a basement for the last 33 years is a crime.Top Hats off to Rolan, Sanctuary, Martin Barden and" all the cats..you know who you are" for having the balls and passion to bring this out for the masses. It must have cost a fortune to clean up and I hope it sells by the truckload.
I was a Bolan Childe in the 70s and seeing this wonderous 5 hours today brought a tear to my aged eyes..it really was like 1972 again and I hope the star that Marc was/is will still be allowed to shine..big time.

Thanks Ringo for giving your blessing and especially to Rolan who never got the chance to really know his Father...remember Marc made SO many people happy..as he says in the film."your'e my People"...pass the kleenex.
Sorry to ramble but this is the Bolan Holy Grail..so much to see, feel and just be..there are so many jewels in this crown...BUY it ..darken the room, open the champagne and ROCK On..You will not be sorry ..honest..

Movie Review: Marc and Ringo, having a cosmic giggle
Summary: 5 Stars

This is Ringo Starr's rock-star romp, glam just before Bowie darkened the fun with his Spiders From Mars. Silly bits, Ringo in a rodent suit, mad tea parties, rockabilly raveups in the basement at Apple Records ... it's all here in that druggy, bits'n'pieces late-Beatles style of filmmaking that's as meaningful as, well, Marc's disembodied head appearing inside a piano being played by Elton John.

What pulls all this nonsense together is the music, of course, and in the newly-restored footage there's a lot of it. Marc and the band are in top form, somehow managing to cut through the teenybop adulation with real, loud, rock'n'roll. Whether or not Bolan's Tolkien-esque lyrics are your cup of tea, Ringo certainly knew enough about pop idols to keep the camera focused on Marc and let the myth take care of itself. What's surprising about the Wembley audience is the intensity on fans' faces, both girls and boys -- when Bolan breaks into a wicked version of "Summertime Blues" there's just a hint of the Sex Pistols' punk sneer that was just five years away.

This is a great set, literally rescued from rust, with sound remixed by Bolan's (and Bowie's) producer Tony Visconti. It's all about having fun and being a rock star, with Ringo as your pal, and some terrific sing-along rock'n'roll. Baz Luhrman made Bolan's "Children of the Revolution" the center of "Moulin Rouge," his film about another era of decadence and excess, and Marc would have doubtless gotten a real kick out of it. If his head wasn't still stuck in Elton's piano, that is.

Movie Review: Re-Born to Boogie
Summary: 5 Stars

Thank you, thank you,& thank you,,to everyone involved in the tedious restoration and expansion of this movie + features. For 4 albums T. Rex was at the top of glam rock. Remember your old 70's Circus, Crawdaddy,& Rolling Stone magazines??? Who was on a lot of covers??? MMM,,MMM,,yep Marc Bolan. I remember when I first purchased Electric Warrior. "Ughhh,,this sucks". Know what?? The stereo kept playing it for some reason. One of those new sounds that grew on you. Kept growing, until it became one of your music staples in "adult life". Maybe this DVD has some issues,,like 2 complete concerts from same day w/same song set, a bit too much blah, blah from Marc's son, Rolan on the features,,,but what the hell!!! Hey you get a broken apart (your preference; vocals, guitar, bass,or drums) "Jeepster" as a feature,,if you want to play/sing along or just learn the song (so I was playing the guitar part wrong all these years). In retrospect, I played the entire concerts about 20X,,before I got to the actual movie. Don't pass that up though. It's fun/silly between the real concert songs, pre-MTV, kind of like The Beatles "Hard Days Night/Help!". Along with Ringo & Elton John (b/4 hair weaves)we can get a flashback of that sliver of our lives that was soooo fun. At last, we get to welcome back Marc Bolan & T.Rex,,,though they may be long gone,,they'll never be forgotten. Again, Thank You !

Movie Review: genius and ridiculous
Summary: 5 Stars

Did Marc Bolan always know that he was brilliant at being silly, or was his earnest belief that he was great his downfall? If the former, well then everything went according to plan. If the latter, than why all the winking/knowing smiles? Marc Bolan was the greatest rock star of all time. Better than the Beatles, better than Bowie, better than anyone.

Notice, I didn't say musician. He was relatively simple (you can learn any of his songs in ten minutes). But, he had an earnest desire to enterain and rock you with his weird, post-hippie lyrics and pre-glam (he was the first) Zepplin-meets-Donovan stomp. This was a guy just trying to make it happen and it did. Once he really hit his stride, as this excellent DVD points out, Marc Bolan's T-REX was selling 100,000 records a day for nearly 3 years. That's amazing.

I love Marc Bolan. His music is just pure fun. His personality goes to 11, man.

This DVD is given the full-blown, all around treatment. Special praise to Tony Visconti for amazing sound restoration. I never thought this film would sound this good (I had the VHS version for years.) Also, there are more bonus features than there is film. Two full concerts and several documentaries.

For any fan, you must buy this now!!!

Brillant as the British say! The restoration of this film was amazing to say the least. One would never know that it sat around for 33 years rotting before it was saved and restored from extinction. Marc Bolan and T.Rex shine brightly in the concert portion of this film. The 8:30 show was by far the more exciting and less problematic of the two. The 5:30 show had it's share of glitches. Marc's microphone was loose and playing "catch me if you can" throughout most of "Telegram Sam" and Steve Curry had difficulties getting plugged in to the amp during the beginning of "Cadilac". But as they say it's live and anything can happen. Even though at times the other parts of the film, namely the mad hatter's tea party scene, appear silly they do give a personal insight that I enjoy. It shows Marc Bolan at his impish best. The hidden Easter Eggs( bet some of you didn't know this section existed!) were interesting to me for the same reason. I would love to explain how to view the Easter Eggs, but it's a bit long. In any event if you're a big fan of Marc Bolan and T. Rex and you can only buy one thing this year let it be this. I do have to say though that all the memories did make me once again a bit wistful for the 70's.
