Movie Reviews of SwordfishMovie Review: PASSWORD - MAGNIFICANT!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is mind-blowing. Great action, great special effects, great movie!!! I've watched this film about 10 times so far. I just need to stop renting it, and buy it already!!! I enjoy this movie that much. This movie grabs you from the beginning and you are hooked right up to the end of the film. I mean how can you not be riveted to your seat during that explosive 360 degree turn scene? No pun intended, but that scene is the bomb!!! John Travolta plays Gabriel Shear who is determined to get his hands on 9.5 billion dollars to fight terrorism. The problem is he lacks the skills to hack into the site holding the funds. Enter Ginger. Ginger is sent to find the best hacker in the business, and that hacker is Stanley (Hugh Jackman). Stanley is trying to get his life in order, but the one thing he wants the most is custody of his daughter. He does not have the money, and Ginger is determined to convince him that Gabriel is the answer to his prayers. Stanleys daughter is living with her super drunk, porn acting mom played by (Drea De Matteo - Sopranos). If Stanley touches a computer, he stands to go back to jail. Stanley can't resist the lure of some big money, so he risks everything to the big pay day so he can get custody of his daughter (Camryn Grimes).
The beginning of the movie is so intense, I find myself rewinding that part of the movie so I can watch that explosive scene, over and over again. That car scene is one of the best since the Rock, and the way Gabriel holds the guns!!! All I can say is WOW !!! What I really enjoyed about this movie are all the plot twists. When you think you have it figured out, another twist is revealed. This movie really keeps you guessing when you first watch it.
My second favorite scene is the bus scene. When the bus is taken in the air all I could do was sit there with my mouth open. That was very original. I don't know why there was all that fuss about Halle's topless scene. I counted; you only see her boobs for 6 seconds total!!! SIX SECONDS!!! Three seconds, then the camera pans away, and then another 3 seconds. I'm sure for the guys that was all they needed. I felt that is nothing to make a big deal about. I did like how Stanley was bumping into things after he got Ginger's car keys. The movie offers alternate endings. I liked the one they use for the film.
I highly recommend this film. It's magnificent!
Movie Review: Whatever it takes to do the JOB Summary: 5 Stars
I felt I had to write this review because every other reviewer must have seen a different film to me. If you were expecting a great plot then you should never watch a hollywood film. Even starwars which as I recall was not to well treated by the reviewers has a weak plot but has gone down in history. For me the great thing about this film is not the overall plot but that for the first time there was a sense of realism. I have a PhD in chemistry and if you gave me the problem/job of getting the money I would do whatever it took 1 hostage, 2 or 100 I would not care as success would be all that mattered. There is a great line in the film when one of the hostages is blown up as the police attempt a rescue John Travolta says "that was not my dicision it was yours" (the police) and I agree. In this the hostage taker says what he will do if you do something, if you then take action that results in his/her death that was your dicision. The hostage taker just told you what he would do. Also in the film you never really no who is bad and good as Travolta does not play a terrorist as many reviews have said but a member of a black opps team who take pro-active measures against people who they consider to be a threat to the USA. To save millions they may have to kills a few hundred is this good or bad? ... The story is simple I need money to continue my course ie the 9.5 billion dollars to do this I need a good hacker then I do whatever it takes to get away. For me this film raises some interesting questions for one how far would you go to get what you want? To protect your country? How far is too far? Etc... This is a great film as there are no real good guys just people who know what they want and in that more like life. We all work for money don't we. See the film and judge for yourself.
Movie Review: "Berry" appealing for that famous scene & more Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, I was a sucker (no pun intended) for that famous topless scene, but CTPB, Halle was NOT paid extra bucks to do it. It was simply a part of the character she played, as she asserts at her website. She does talk more about it in some of the supplemental trailers (including 2 hidden ones--depending on how your DVD player works you can search for titles 12 & 14). One of the trailers is as long as the movie itself; as the movie plays from start to finish, the director comments on how various scenes were shot & why they were shot the way they were. His perspective on the topless scene: Halle agreed to do it because her character would "get the upper hand" by turning the embarrassment around on Hugh Jackman's character, who would then get disoriented & bump into a chair. At any rate, why all the "hoopla over the boobla," as another reviewer put it? This is already an R movie for all the shootings & things blowing up, so its makers might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb. Besides, Kate Winslet bared all for an art-posing scene in "Titanic," & that movie is PG-13! As long as Halle is comfy doing such a scene, I say go for it! Of course there was that underwear/wire/gun scene, which I loved also. Plus the unorthodox plot where you can't tell whether Hugh Jackman is the good guy & John Travolta the bad guy or vice versa. Even the timing of this movie is interesting--it came out only a few months before 9/11. Controversy often drives people's interest in a movie (or, for that matter, a book or audio CD or whatever) up instead of down, & that sure was the case with me. Congrats, Halle, on a job well done--again, if you're comfy with it, do it!
Movie Review: you didn't just see this . it just saw you. Summary: 5 Stars
it is like the French Connection with the Matrix mixed in.
Berry is brillaint in her role
Jackman is great and derivative too
Travolta is very shocking with his role
in this movie in a way you really don't know if the guys who Jackman is hacking for are really good or bad
even the ending is quite puzzling
a sign of a sequal perhaps?
or more details we have to fill in for ourselves to fully understand the whole movie?
I like that we get to think for ourselves what the ending means or conveys
very powerful movie
some laughs
some shocks
great action
great action scenes
brilliant scripting and directing
the whole movie is a tour de force snapped up 8 notches with slight action and more emotion to it
if you like Berry see: Gothika, Bulworth, and other movies
if you like Hugh Jackman: see this movie, X men 1 and 2, and other movies
if you like Travolta see: Grease, Look who's talking movies, Phenomenon, Face off. and other movies

Movie Review: One of my favs! Great plot with great actors! MUST SEE! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie with my friend and his dad. His dad is really critical about movies and stuff like that. I was very surprised to hear that he really enjoyed it. I on the other hand, heard great things about this movie from other people and was looking forward to seeing it. I was not disapointed. The movie had some great actors such as Hugh Jackman from XMEN and Don Cheadle who did an incredible job in Traffic. Now I have to admit John Travolta is someone who I do not really like as actor. That is probably because I haven't seen many of his movies. I'll tell you one thing though: He was amazing in this movie. He delivered a performance you won't forget and his character'spersonality was one that was so unique I had to question myself with his interesting being. Now comes Halle Berry. Now I also admit that I was looking forward to the scenes with Halle Berry bearing her body. But, she is an incredible actor too and she deserves credit for the good job she did in this movie. Overall, this movie was confusing in some parts but then again, most movies are. All movies have the potential of being viewed twice and then you will full understand the movie. Swordfish is a great movie with anyone interested in the world of hacking, terrorism (not the best time in the world to say that word sry), and illusions (you will understand once you see the movie HOUDINI IS MY BRO!). I highly recommend seeing this movie. After all, a great story, with great actors, and some scenes that will make you jump, how can you miss? Hehe, just kidding.
