Movie Reviews of Swing Time

Movie Review: Fabulous Dancing, even to a novice
Summary: 4 Stars

I am totally unqualified to write an expert review on a film like this, as I know little about the music and dancing of the period. But I do want to make a plug for this film in that I, as a person who is not only not interested in this genre but also found the story and characters of "Swing Time" to be less than engrossing, was bowled over by the dancing of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. Their artistry and excellence make the film worth watching, even if you, like I, could do without the rest of it. So if your wife or friends want to watch Rogers and Astaire, and you would rather take in a war movie, broaden your horizons and agree to learn about these outstanding American dancers.

Movie Review: Shadow Dance One Of Fred's Best
Summary: 4 Stars

There is one tremendous dance scene in here by Fred Astaire which includes three big shadows on the wall in back of him as he dances. I think it's one of Fred's all-time best numbers; very inventive and always great to watch.

There are also a few good dance scenes with Fred and Ginger Rogers. Some of the songs from this film became "standards," such as "The Way You Look Tonight" and "Pick Yourself Up."

Those are the highlights of the movie. The script is corny with the typical marriages made out of "spite" angle, which seemed to be popular in this era.....but when Fred And Ginger dance, who cares about the story?

Movie Review: Wonderful Dancing, Slow Plot
Summary: 4 Stars

This film has wonderful comedic players in it, but the script isn't very good. The result is--dare I say it--a movie that's not very amusing and a bit boring. The dancing and musical numbers, however, make up for the plot's shortcomings. For me, the highlight is at the beginning of the film, with the number "Pick Yourself Up". Astaire's minstrel number, in which he dances with shadows, is technically interesting, but didn't add to my appreciation of the film.

Movie Review: Hilarious
Summary: 4 Stars

This movie has some very funny parts and characters. There are also some great song and dance numbers. Of course to talent of Astaire and Rogers cannot be contested, but I was surprised at how funny it was. I think that people that didn't like musicals or old movies could find something to enjoy in this.
