Movie Review: One of my favorite all time movies

I saw this movie when it first came out on the big screen and fell in love with it immediately. I love the story line - a bunch of swing kids listening to the forbidden jazz, and dancing in clubs to American music. The music and dancing is great, but the story is really sobering. It's hard to imagine what people lived through in those days. I bought this movie when it first came out on DVD and loaned it out. Big mistake!! Now I'm buying it again and I'll tell everyone where I got it so they can order their own. I also bought the soundtrack of the movie because the music is so addictive. Great movie. Great acting. I saw this for the first time when I substituted for a history class, so I got to see it 5 times over 3 days. :) I loved the music and dancing. Beyond that, this was not just good family entertainment, but informative and a wonderful, and very palatable way to teach a little known segment of history to a sometimes resistant "student." If this couldn't get around the resistant, then nothing can! It wasn't meant to be a documentary, (for those who are so critical), nor a more adult fare drama like Schindler's List. In fact, the documentary format is usually not so palatable, thus not so readily learned. BRAVO! Great movie!Movie Review: 5 Stars!

The movie gives a nice historical reference of the mind set to some of the kids that weren't into the whole idea of a pure race that should be dominating over others. How that despite how strong a bond you can have with someone, the power of propoganda is something that is equal to none. The acting is realistic and seems to hold a strong sense of natural reactions to the problems laid before the "Swing Kids". Great movie overall, I'm a large WWII buff and this prospective on the younger side of those who didn't support Nazism through joining the Hitler Juggands was much overlooked view.Movie Review: Incredible film

This movie is by far one of my favorites. It's fun, thrilling, and dramatic. I was on the edge of my seat with excitment. The music is great, I have the soundtrack and listen to it all the time. It is a great story about kids who loved to listen to swing music, but were forbidden by law, who would secretly go behind the officials backs just to enjoy their music. If you want a good drama that provokes anger, excitment, as well as tears then I strongly recommend this film. When it's over you will just want to replay it over and over. A great film and definately worth the purchase.Movie Review: Underrated film!

I was pleased to find Swing Kids has recently been released on DVD, since it has been out of print on video for many years. This is one of the most underrated films of the '90s - it is surprising how many people have not seen it or even heard of it. The cast is superb - Christian Bale, Robert Sean Leonard and Frank Whaley are excellent. The ending is truly heart-wrenching and unforgettable. Combine the dramatic elements of a young Nazi-torn society with the fantastic element of Swing makes this a great movie, indeed. Very watchable, again and again.
