Movie Reviews of Swept From the SeaMovie Review: Conrad. To a Seafarer is a god. Summary: 5 Stars
Well. Tom Jones IS my favorite video (of the TV series fame ... Henry Fielding would just be so happy to have seen it!!!!.. ) but this with my God of music John Barry, and God of literature "Joseph Conrad" as a focus to those you were brave and who dared.... I have worked on the sea, on ships, and lived as an outcast... For a romance, drama, mystery, historical, play... this movie blows, "Lord of the Rings", "Marnie", "Gone with the wind", all Thomas Hardy movies, "A year of living dangerously", "far from the madding crowd".... and more away. HEART. CORAZON. COEUR. Do you have the ability to see the person behind the prejudice?? Can you dance? Must you close the door of your expensive metal machine with 4 synthetic rubber tires and a multiple horrible electronic systems from being able to walk for 6 miles in freezing rain to save the one you love who does not understand yet you love them???
Movie Review: Amazing little "sleeper film" Summary: 5 Stars
No one I know has ever heard of this film. I found it during late night cruising of Amazon while looking for ocean-themed movies. I'm a sucker for a well-done historical film, and the reviewers sold me on this one. My interest was piqued by one guy-reviewer in Bakersfield praising this as a romantic film, yet giving the impression that this would NOT be a sappy, mushy gothic item. This film was as beautifully executed as all the reviewers lead me to believe. I particularly appreciated the pacing of the film. The director did not rush from shot to shot like a video game, but allowed the camera to linger a bit on faces and scenes, just enough to convey the sense of being in a slower-paced century, allow me to appreciate subtle details, and savor the visual beauty of this neat little gem of a film.
Movie Review: This is a Good One Summary: 5 Stars
I had a lot of expectations going into this movie, and they were all thoroughly met! Vincent Perez(Indochine), plays Yanko Gooral, a shipwrecked immigrant on his way to America. Being the only survivor, many believe he escaped from an insane asylum. Amy Foster(Rachel Weisz), is the first person Yanko sees after the shipwreck, and for a while is the only person who shows him kindness. Yanko and Amy fall for each other, but in 19th century society a 'gypsy' and a 'simpleton' are odd enough alone, but together are a subject truly worthy of gossip. As a theatre performance major, I hold movies to a higher level of scrutiny, but this one passes with flying colors!
Movie Review: A wonderfull film Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished watching this movie & I loved it. It's a very simple film but the characters are so strong that in spite of the way they are both treated by the people around them they still come off well as almost a Romeo & Juliet star crossed couple. They are both brought together by the sea ( almost a kind of character itself ). Kathy Bates comes across as the real surprise in this film & she does this several times, one of the best characters I've seen her play since "P.S. I Love You". Sir Ian plays a doctor who is caught up in the story both by his service as a doctor & his compassion for the people of the village. I highly reccommend this movie.
Movie Review: moved my entire soul Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of those love stories that destroys hearts. Not in a bad way, but melts them like ice. This story reminds me a lot of Titanic. Titanic has a wonderful story, as does Braveheart. I rate this movie along with Titanic and Braveheart. Braveheart has a gorgeous love story. Titanic does too. Swept From The Sea is its own! It is so unique! I don't know what else to say, but one must see it to understand how much I love it. It is a movie that will be deeply buried within my mind. A jewel. So tender and kind! BRILLIANT!
