Movie Reviews of Sweet Home AlabamaMovie Review: sweet, old-fashioned symmetry Summary: 5 Stars
Reese Witherspoon shines, surrounded by strong supporting characters like Mary Kay Place (of the TV series, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, popular some 20 years ago), and a shrewd, witchy Candice Bergen. "Sweet Home Alabama" is made according to the old-fashioned formula of romance, dilemma, and symmetry. The film begins and ends at the same place, the beach on the Gulf Coast in a severe electrical storm. My sole criticism is that some of the outfits that Witherspoon wears in the film belie her successful career as a New York fashion designer. Her two love interests, her Alabama high school sweetheart who stocks his refrigerator with non-lite Bud, and her New York fiance who stages his marriage proposal in an after-hours opening of Tiffany's jewelry department, could not be further apart, geographically and otherwise. This good-natured film will evoke nostalgia for the well-made stories of the 1940s. Barbara Stanwyck or Bette Davis could easily step into the role. Recommended for the entire family, all ages.
Movie Review: True Love is Right Under Your Nose! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my all time favorite chick flicks/romantic comedies! The movie is funny, well acted and has a great storyline to top it all off.
Take one small town, Southern girl, Melanie Carmichael, who moves to New York City & makes it big as a fashion designer. Ms. Carmichael falls in love & becomes engaged to a young, rich and ambitious young man from a well-to-do family. She finally believes she has found the man of her dreams.
Unfortunately, there is one small hiccup! Ms. Carmichael is still married to her redneck, high school sweetheart with whom she has been trying to divorce for years...... However, Ms. Carmichael's husband won't consent to the divorce. Now that, Ms. Carmichael is engaged to her new beau, she flies down to her hometown in Alabama in one last ditch effort to convince her husband to sign the divorce papers. Things don't go as smoothly as expected and Ms. Carmichael learns to love her roots and home town traditions. Not to mention who her true love really is.
Movie Review: You Can Take the Girl Out of the Country But.... Summary: 5 Stars
After seeing Reese Witherspoon in the movie "Legally Blonde" I realized that she had finally arrived as an actor. In "Sweet Home Alabama" (movie title inspired by the song)Reese plays the part of a New York fashion designer who is engaged to the son of the Mayor. The problem is that she is still married to her childhood sweetheart (since age 10 mind you) back home in Pigeon Creek, Alabama. Just down the road a piece from Hicksville.Reese goes home, now because she is a sucessful NY fashion designer she is a much much better person than any of the corn feed folk from down Alabama way, to secure her estranged husband's signature on the divorce decree. She winds up discovering that "you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl." "Sweet Home Alabama" is a funny movie and yet it is also a moralistic story. And the dialoge was great. I would recommend this one for the entire family. (No sex, violence, or nudity.) Cammy Diaz A @ L
Movie Review: Unforgettable. Summary: 5 Stars
Reese Witherspoon delivers amazing performances in any film she does. She is so talented, and she proves it in this movie portraying a girl who discovers she can't leave her past behind her. When she's proposed to and says yes to a running senate, she couldn't be happier! But there's one problem, she's still married to her high school sweetheart. So she goes back to her roots to settle their divorce only to find she can't leave who she is behind or ignore it anymore. The movie is a rollercoaster ride of sweet, romantic comedy, and pure talent. The dialouge and script was written gracefully, and in my opinion, the movie has no flaws. This may not be the movie for serious move-goers though, but if you enjoy a laid back, funny movie, this one is for you. You couldn't ask for a better cast, and the plot is original. Being from Alabama myself, I could relate to alot of the film's enviroment. So go see this movie, buy it, whatever. But this is one movie you do not wanna miss.
Movie Review: Can't go wrong with Reese Summary: 5 Stars
OK, so maybe it isn't the most original plot of all time. So what. Reese Witherspoon is absolutely the coolest human being on the planet, and soooooooo cute. And did I mention talented? Why do dramatic actresses get all the awards? Who said making a good comedy is easy? I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie and I could watch it again and again. And there were some poignant moments, like when Melanie is in the bar thumbing her nose at the locals and she comes to herself and sees her own real self. She decides to make amends to the people she has offended. Too bad more people in real life don't reach this point in their life and take corrective action to make it up to people. The world would be a better place. Later she comes to herself in the other matter, the one involving her first love. I knew it would happen, just didn't know how. This is a good romantic comedy with my favorite actress making it work. I liked the plot.
