Movie Reviews of Sweet Home Alabama

Movie Review: Get your...down here and give me a 5 Stars

Sweet Home Alabama should be right up there with movies like My Best Friends Wedding and The Wedding Planner. Reese Witherspoon's acting in this movie was a lot more serious, not like her usual bubbly blonde roles like in Legally Blonde. Reese plays Melanie Carmichael a famous New York fashion designer who is engaged to Patrick Dempsy who plays the part of the wealthy son of New York mayor played by Candice Bergen. Everything in Melanie's life seems perfect, that is until she decides to go back to her hometown Alabama and tell her family and friends she is going to get married. When she returns home the first item on her list: ask her husband played by Josh Lucas for a divorce. Hilarity and mishap ensue. As time progresses Melanie realizes just how important her family is to her and how it was wrong of her to shut them out. She also comes to realize that her love for husband is even stronger and that he is the one she should be with. This movie proves to be a great romantic comedy and is a movie for both girls and GUYS. It is not a chick flick ok? Also look for appearances by Ethan Embry as Melanie's cousin Bobby Rae and Melanie Lynskey as Melanie's friend. The acting is great, the script is original, and Reese who was not only made for this part proves that she can be a serious actress and is not one of the stereotypical blondes of Hollywood.

Movie Review: Down Home Romantic Comedy
Summary: 5 Stars

Both my wife and I really enjoyed this movie. A southern girl, Melanie Carmichael (Reese Witherspoon) makes good in New York in the fashion business and is destined to go places and has accepted a proposal of marriage from the wealthy son (Patrick Dempsey) of the mayor (Candice Bergen). But a hitch in their marriage plans remain in her home town in Alabama in which her husband, Jake (Josh Lucas), a high school sweetheart whom she married as a teen and is still married to, refuses repeatedly to sign the divorce papers. She returns to Alabama to get him to sign the papers and a merry chain of events follow. Mary Kay Place, portraying Melanie's mother and Fred Ward as her father both do a believable job as her parents. Bryant the dog was excellent as Jake's expressive hound and added a lot to the movie. In spite of some of the reviews, we felt that the plot was solid and believable, and the acting good with many known and good actors and actresses giving believable performances to their characters. The movie was funny with heart as well. I hope some of the sophisticated movie viewers will chill out and enjoy the movie as much as this former country boy did. Whom did she choose? Watch the movie! This review was based on A VHS rented from Blockbuster.

Movie Review: The beauty of southern living reborn in a young lady's heart
Summary: 5 Stars

Sweet Home Alabama is a stunning movie exemplifying the fine virtues of the south, including the hospitality, the warmth, the love, the carefree, relaxed attitide, with steady motivation, and a deep loving passion, just to name a few. This movie tells a beautiful love story that all those fortunate to have a southern bell of their own could easily relate to, as well as any hopeless romantic. A beautiful romance tied in with appropriate comical relief make this movie both funny, and touching. The dramatic characters of the south are also outlined and further allow the viewer to become fixated. The movie plays with your emotions and has the viewer dying to see this young confused lady find herself and realize that growing up in the south is a world away from growing up in the north. You almost cheer her on as she gets closer and closer to making that perfect match that you somehow know is there from the get go, but she almost loses heself. She almost seems to get caught up in changing her life, that she seems to think she needs to change her roots as well. She almost does, but suddenly remembers what perhaps, subconsciously she knew the whole time. The movie touches the heart, and touches the soul, but if your from the south you probably already knew it would.

Movie Review: Reese Witherspoon shines in this lovely romance/comedy.!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am not a huge fan of romance-comedies, but this movie sure gives me a different opinion all together. Alan, the director, did an outstanding job with this one. I suggest you watch this movie as soon as you can, because it sure is one you don't want to miss.

Reese plays a woman, who started off with nothing, and on her own, amassed a huge amount of fame as a hot new clothes designer in New York City. After her big show, she gets asked to marry a man, who seems to be absolutley in love with her. One little problem....she is still married to a man who lives in her hometown, in the state of Alabama.

This movie revolves around her going back to her sweet home Alabama, to get her Husband to sign divorce papers, so that she can move on in her life. What is going to happen to her? Who is she going to end up being married to? She has to choose from either:
A.) A man, who is very famous/rich/ and who absolutley loves her.
-0r-
B.) A man, who has been in love with her since he was 10 years old.

This movie keeps you in complete suspense, and I will be purchasing this movie as soon as it comes out on DVD. Watch it, But it, or just read about it, but don't miss it. Enjoy! :)
