Movie Reviews of SuperstitionMovie Review: Predictable and campy 80s horror Summary: 2 Stars
I watched this on TCM Underground recently and was quite disappointed. The title and description led me to believe this was more in the vein of an atmospheric classic horror movie, but it really played out more as a campy, gorefest of a horror flick. The character development was non-existent, and the plot got a bit tired after a while - basically the premise is about a house of death where untold murders occur, and the beginning is pure campy horror. Two teenagers are playing pranks and exploring the house when one goes missing and his friend finds him...in the microwave! The movie abounds in dismembered body parts, people going missing only to turn up dead, etc. The scares are ho-hum, and the villain is portrayed as having talons/claws and cloaked in a black suit.
The main star here is a young priest who is determined to solve the mystery of the house and in the process, save the lives of the its most recent inhabitants, an alcoholic former priest and his family. As the young priest digs, he finds the true horror of the house's past which has links to witchcraft. There are some familiar faces here (though I can't recall their names) associated with 80s cinema. The movie is predictable and campy, with little to recommend it except for the nostalgia factor, i.e. watch it if you're a die-hard 80s horror fan.
