Movie Review: brilliant, brilliant, brilliant

i won't expend a huge amount of energy praising this film - others have done so far better than i could.
i remember the first time i saw "superman the movie" as a child, and this amazing film succeeds as a most unsual hybrid of sequel, homage and, in some ways, a quasi-remake of the original film.
popular opinion tends to hold that "superman II" is a classic film, but watching it through adult eyes, you'd be hard-pressed to seriously argue that case. a fine idea, with fantastic sequences - but a hammy train-wreck of a movie, as mangled after the dismissal of original director richard donner.
i can only imagine that the inexplicable complaints about "superman returns," and the absurd statements of it being amongst the worst films ever made, come from the same folks who can't take a critical view of "superman II" and its ultimately embarrassing idiocy.
"superman returns" echoes the dignified tone and character-driven emotionality of the original film, and does so with grace and respect for the source material. the casting of lois lane might be my only criticism, but brandon routh, kevin spacey, frank langella, and the rest of the cast step into their roles as if they'd played them the first time around.
to those who didn't "get it" and would rather express over-the-top criticisms, without backing them up with intelligent explanation or examples, please stop trying to be film critics. your inability to objectively critique or string together coherent opinions should be cause for nothing less than embarrassment.
if you are a fan of the first christopher reeve film, i strongly urge you to sit dow and take in the beauty of "superman returns," the only proper sequel to the original classic.
Movie Review: Best Blu Ray title so far

I've viewed several of the Blu Ray releases available and for my money this is by far the best looking one to date. Many of the complaints you will see stem from those who are playing on the 1st gen standalone players, specifically the Samsung which had a defective chip that made for soft pictures and lots of noise in the large color areas. I urge anyone looking for a Blu Ray to take a hard look at the Playstation3 as your first player, it's cheaper than the standalone units and Sound and Vision magazine gave it the highest rating of all the players available. I had previously viewed the Fifth Element on the Samsung player on a 1080 LCD and it looked like garbage. The same disk looked amazing on the PS3.
This movie looks amazing when played on a GOOD blu ray player. It has all the extras the DVD release has IN HD.
Movie Review: Best movie ever by far, even better on blu-ray

Aside from the fact that this movie is very well done, the underlying message and philosophy Superman represents is very inspiring. I'm glad that it kept true to the original superman comics and films while bringing a fresh new perspective. Not sure if anyone cares, but superman's story in this film has a lot of parallel with teachings in Christianity in a universal nature of God.
The only technical annoyance that I have about this movie is that it's shown in widescreen aspect ratio instead of taking advantage of the entire HD screen (like anamorphic DVDs). I prefer to have high-def content shown on every pixel on my 3k dollar TV, makes worth the investment. Other than that the extra features are worthwhile as well.
Movie Review: Bryan Singer nailed it !

Superman Returns was one of my favorite movies of 2006. Bryan Singer nailed it! Not only was Superman Returns a great homage to the Christopher Reeve's movies but it also surpasses them in many ways.
The sound and picture are A+ on the Blu-ray DVD. I originally saw Superman Returns in an IMAX theater (in 3-D). I purchased the standard DVD when it became available and found it a letdown. With Blu-Ray, the picture and sound is as vibrant and exciting as I remember it in the theater.
This is the best-looking Blu-Ray DVD I have seen so far. If you love the original Superman movie this will not disappoint.

Looks amazing in 1080p! I can't get enough of Blu-ray! It has several hours of very entertaining making of special features that any movie making fan and/or Brian Singer fan will love!
This movie is timeless cinema! Superbly talented director, Brian Singer, once again made a great movie with class and real storytelling.
Brandon Routh was perfect as Superman and at times eerily reminiscent of Christopher Reeves. Great effects, actors, plot, and reminder that the world is fragile and we need a savior to put our faith in.
