Movie Review: I'm your 4 Stars

People who aren't affiliated with the streets, mistake what some Black males do for survival as ghetto mentality. In many cases as unfortunate as it was, and still is to this day...it's a means to an end. (Not in all cases)

SUPERFLY...That's the ghetto super hero. Adorned in the lastest gear, with the hottest whip, and everything about him "I'M LOVIN' IT!" Especially when he knows that he's played his cards long now it's time to get what he can and get out. People always get too greedy in the game, with either a bid in the joint, or a trip to the graveyard!

"All I need is 4 months!" Our "Superfly" hero says to his life long contact who put him in the game. "4 months, and I'm finished, I'll have my 1/2 million and I can retire!" Can a real hustla whose working for the man retire? Is he able to weave through the back stabbing from his life long partner, the ruthless murder of his mentor, and learning that crime does pay?

Ryan O'neal did the damn thang as a hot ass hustla back in the day. For all you newbies, he played the role on "Different World" as Whitlee Gilbert's dad. Still a very captivating Cat! Not to mention Curtis Mayfield, "I'm your pusher..." The music score to this DVD is so HOT!

It showed you how high in ranks drug distribution comes from. I don't believe that this film was exploitive, it if anything it was insightful. I am not looking for excuses for my Brothers/Sisters. In some instances understanding. We need to step the game up people.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CAST YOUR VOTE FOR PRESIDENT IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT WE USE OUR VOTE TO COUNT OURSELVES IN!!!!

Movie Review: he wants out of the life
Summary: 4 Stars

Superfly has a reputation as one of the great blaxploitation films, along with Shaft, Coffy, and Foxy Brown. Years after watching the others, I finally get around to seeing Superfly.

Superfly is about Youngblood Priest, a drug dealer and one of the baddest, most authentically black cats in all the city. He has it good with his women, the money, his wheels, and he has the respect of the other dealers and underworld figures. Despite all this success, Priest desperately wants to move out of the criminal life. He figures one last score will get him out.

I expected more comedy. Perhaps seeing Ron O'Neal in that outrageous pimp suit on the DVD cover prepared me for a lighter, breezier flick. I also expected more action. Superfly has almost no action. Superfly attempts a thoroughly realistic portrayal of a drug dealer surviving, thriving, and trying to snake his way out of the business. O'Neal's performance is a job well done, and supporting players deserve credit as well.

Gordon Parks Jr. directed, and while his work is not masterful, it serves the performers and setting well.

Superfly deserves its reputation as a landmark blaxploitation flick, and it's surely worth 90 minutes of your time. Just don't start the movie expecting a lot of action or comedy. Superfly is a lowdown nasty drama about the hard life.

Also, the DVD includes some extras. Best of these is a commentary by Dr. Todd Boyd, whose knowledge of the film and time period is evident. Dr. Boyd's insights into the ghetto culture of the early and mid 1970s and African-American life there are valuable and exceptional.

Movie Review: "I'm looking to get out of the life"
Summary: 4 Stars

I was born in the 60's so i was a kid when these "blaxploitation" films came out,and even though i was under the legal age to see them at the time I saw my fare share regardless.Superfly was a film I didn't see until in my 20's and its in my top 3.Don't focus on the title or the flashy clothes/car,focus on the message. This was a young cat who came to the realization that there's more to life than the drug game ,but he's not willing to "work for chump change"either.I totally agree with Jenks in his review. Why wait until you're jailed, old,or dead before you finally get it.Even though Priest had a plan it just goes to show you "the man " doesn't want us doing anything productive. This movie is for all young cats hustlin' and living the life.KNOW WHEN TO FOLD 'EM.

Movie Review: Man this dvd is smoking hot.
Summary: 4 Stars

Well this another effert from warner bros. First off the widescreen is amazing earns cool points the print used here is from all the vhs versions. I mean after all it's over 30 years old ok lets get off that part. Now preist is the man in the hood and parnter and ace wants to hit 1 last score. But the screw up the cops wants in on there action. Also the score from the late great curtis mayfield r.i.p. the soundtrack it's self is beautiful. Now warner one mor thing we need purple rain in widescreen commtary by prince himself and sparkle on dvd i'll not ask for anything more wait wait night moves and performance if i get my wish i'll warship you forever and thanks for the memories.

Movie Review: FINALLY!
Summary: 4 Stars

Finally, Super Fly is on DVD. The wait has been agonizing, but now it's finally here. My only problem with it is that Warner Bros.-- again --used the Super Cheesy cardboard DVD snap case instead of the plastic ones that everybody else uses now. That minor flaw aside, this is a great movie that should've been on DVD years ago.
