Movie Reviews of SuperflyMovie Review: Superfly Summary: 5 Stars
A must own for the serious collector! Are you kidding me, you really need a review of this "Blaxploitation" cult classic? I grew up in the 70's and I wanted the clothes and the car and the swagger, and this film really "feels" like the era it is from. But the real good thing about this film is that there is definitely a decent storyline - the first about a coke dealer trying to get out of the "game". The acting is downright funny at times, but that's what makes this the "Plan 9" type of classic that it is. There were real "players" from real life in this film. One character in the movie actually lent his real life car to the production for use as the "Superflymobile". There are many memorable characters in this movie, but "Eddie" stands out as the most compelling. If your goal is to own a complete collection which includes this genre, you must have this film!
Movie Review: Superfly....he's one baaaaad cat! Summary: 5 Stars
You love the '70's? Groovy! This is most jivin', bad-dude classic flick of the '70's, man! OK, it's up there with the original Shaft! Superfly "Priest" is one cool character to watch here, and it's interesting to see this dude who has lived a life of crime (but has done well financially) finally trying to turn over a new leaf and go legit---just after ONE MORE DEAL! :-) I love movies like this that show the dark, dank side of New York--it's definitely not all glitz, glamour and Times Square over there. This is a gritty movie that just screams that cool '70's vibe, and features fine performances by Ron O'Neal and the supporting cast. Not to mention the ever-so-funky soulful music soundtrack provided by the legendary Curtis Mayfield--right on, my man! He even makes an appearance in the movie as a club performer--classic! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! CAN YOU DIG IT?
Movie Review: He's got a plan to stick it to the "man" Summary: 5 Stars
My friend and I were just talkin' best film scores recently and this was one of my favorite top 10. Lots of people will say "Shaft" but main title only and after that the film goes flat for me. This film has always remained a rougue in the Blax genre because of it's subject matter. The anti-heroic pimp, (Ron o'Neal) out to make his last score his biggest before retiring was still a taboo subject for that era and was an untimely coffin nail for Black films to come This is by no means to be an entertainment film nor should it be as a message film but it be reconized as a gothic testamonial to modern day noir and still holds it's own as prime example of supreme 70's film making.
Movie Review: hystorical and SUPER BAD ... OUT! Summary: 5 Stars
The ONE that started it ALL, 1972 WAS THE YEAR BLACK FILMS CAME OF AGE, Super Fly had to be the most talk about flick, of the TIME along with the most popular, sound track in HIP-HOP URBIN MUSIC OF ITS TIME,BY THE POETIC GENIUS OF (CURTIS MAYFEILD.) Not evan the grate (JIMI HENDRIX) him self, could have dreamed, of such, electrfying alchemy, coming from the dynamic should, have won an OSCER, The grate (RON O`NEIL & SHEILA FRAZIER,) and let us not forget all praizas to the real SUPERFLY, The LEGENDARY DIRECTOR (GODON PARKS,JR). All i can say is this film, gritty an all ..., Recognize! 4- Review: Like no other. Classic Summary: 5 Stars
I love movies from this era.. They are so awesome! Car wash,The Mack, Sparkle, etc what great movies. Super Fly is awesome, I am on my 3rd copy of Super Fly as my first copy was on VHS and then I finally found a copy on DVD. I made the mistake of lending Super Fly and The Mack movies out both on DVD, and both movies were never returned to me. So with that said I found my 3rd copy of Super Fly and will never loan it out again to anyone. It is a great classic and full of great entertainment. You will love this classic and all it has to offer. Enjoy! Watch lending it out as well.
