Movie Reviews of Super TroopersMovie Review: Brilliant Modern Comedy Summary: 5 Stars
It's a rare occasion for me to find a comedy in the 2000's that ensues hilarity and doesn't let up on it one bit. Enter Super Trooper, a comedy in which five highway patrol cops do whatever it takes to save their police station. However, these cops are rather inept and are always beaten by the neighboring patrol. Just by watching the opening scene, when the highway patrol deals with these stoners, you'll get a sense of what you're in for. The standout character is definitely Officer Rod Farva, the most inept out of all the patrol, and the one who is always getting into trouble. I'm not going to explain this any more, since I don't want to spoil the movie for you, but if you're wanting a comedy that is truly deemed to be a classic, buy this movie. Or rent it. Just watch it.
Movie Review: "That'll Happen." Summary: 5 Stars
If you don't like this movie, check your pulse. If you establish you are alive and still don't like this movie, move to Russia. While some people call SUPER TROOPERS a dumb comedy, it is really just the opposite. The mix of incredibly clever humor, clever dialogue, gross out humor, and doubled and tripled meanings ensure that even after seeing more than a dozen times you'll find something new in the movie. SUPERTROOPERS does rely on a lot of dumb jokes, but there is an art in creating jokes that are SO dumb that they are funny. This is not frat movie in cop clothing or another dragging, lame 80 minute studio comedy. This movie is hilarious. So go buy or rent it. And keep your bags packed with lots of warm clothing just in case you don't like it.
Movie Review: Fakes with the left, hit's with the right Summary: 5 Stars
Few movies have ever been funny enough to make me laugh so hard that I actually stop breathing. Super Troopers has done this, and so it will go down (for me) in history. Those who compare this movie to Police Academy do it a terrible injustice, and only demonstrate their own level of cultural identification... This movie reminds us of just how funny violence, and the degrading of our fellow human beings can be. How refreshing after a decade of touchy feely nonsense. I had very few expectations when I went into this, and the first three minutes assured me I had not made a mistake. Supper troopers paid of huge, and it's too bad that it's external message was so terribly unappealing to so many of us. Kudos to the makers!
Movie Review: Proof that you don't need a big budget to make a good movie Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this DVD on a whim, and I couldn't be happier. This movie is just plain funny. Sure it isn't exactly high class comedy, but for someone like me (a broke college student) its perfect. The characters are very distinct, but they mesh well together. The broken lizard crew are all buddies and it really shows on this film. The gags are really well delivered. Some could have been really tasteless, (like the bear"lover" scene), but broken lizard knew just how far to go. The DVD itself also contains some great extras. Comentary by all the broken lizard members, as well as deleted and extended scenes w/ optional comentary, outake reel, and a featurette on the film. Overall a great buy.
Movie Review: Not for cardboard cutout types Summary: 5 Stars
If you're the type that finds Nathan Lane or the sit-com "Full House" funny, you can skip this flick and get yourself something like Mousetrap or any Billy Crystal movie. It's just not going to work out, and I don't mean to be offensive. If you are "with it", however, I must say that Super Troopers is right up your alley. This is truly one of the comedic gems of the past decade. Broken Lizard are terrific and each member shines throughout the movie. One of the few DVDs that I've watched multiple times within the first week of ownership. I'm not surprised that this was not a mainstream success but I just hope that it was successful enough that we can see more from the Broken Lizard team.
