Movie Reviews of SunshineMovie Review: I was enthralled Summary: 5 Stars
I watched this movie last night and I absolutely loved it. First of all, it's an ambitious form of sci-fi that not very many people make anymore. But, more than that, I consider this movie a horror movie. It was very scary, in a suspenseful way. For most of the film, it manages to be a horror movie without any type of monster or villian, which is almost unique. The pace is quick, and not a lot of time is given for explanations or explicit character development. I thought this was a strength. It's rare to see an action film or disaster movie or what-have-you where the characters actually act like they are in peril and are trying to save the world/themselves. They don't take time for long chats or flirting or jokes, and I loved that. The acting was brilliant and the directing gorgeous.
I have some issues with the last third of the movie. It takes a bit of a turn and the ending was so fast-paced as to be confusing, but ultimately I still loved it. I talked about it until I went to bed last night, and I'm still thinking about it. When I was done watching it, I literally felt like I had just gotten off a rollercoaster, that's how tense it was.
Movie Review: Psychological Thriller and Sci-Fi Action Blockbuster Summary: 5 Stars
I have to be careful how I review this movie, because I am absolutely enamored with it. I bought the DVD from Amazon the very day that it came out, and if I'm not careful I'm going to hype it up too much.
Really, though, for a lover of sci-fi it was a fantastic piece of work. From the writer of Tesseract and 28 Days Later comes something better than both of those. And, speaking as an engineer, a whole lot of what you will see in this movie is entirely scientifically accurate, too (except maybe the travelling to the center of the sun part -- hey, sometimes you have to get a little imaginative). The psychology and development of the characters was great, in my opinion. Through both suspense and action, it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
It's just too bad not everyone had a chance to see this in theaters, because the cinematography is yet another thing to rave about; they've engineered some stunning images here. I saw this for the first time while visiting family in Boston, and I almost cried when I came back home and tried to take all my friends to go see it and found out it wasn't showing anywhere in New Orleans!
Movie Review: Visually Stunning and Intellectually Beautiful Summary: 5 Stars
Danny Boyle's latest effort "Sunshine" marks his leap into the sci-fi genre. And, similar to many of his other films, a mixture of intelligent dialogue and stunning cinemetography works to illustrate something beyond the surface plot. "Sunshine" is an emotion, spiritual, and scientific journey for everyone who takes the time to lose themselves in the movie.
While many have bashed "Sunshine" for its seemingly implausible plot, I commend the writers for taking a leap into seemingly unknown territory. This also, however, has its drawbacks. Since many people do not know of the existence of "Q-balls" and since the film never makes any mention as to why the sun is dying, "Sunshine" can come off as ill-informed and scientifically ignorant. A short, concise summary of exactly why the sun is dying could help the movie appeal to those who did not take the time to research it before stepping into theaters.
But other than one small flaw, "Sunshine" is an extremely bold and impressive addition to the science fiction genre and should be seen by both fans of the genre and those who are not.
Movie Review: One of the most beautiful engrossing sci fi films ever! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie in the movie theatre and some knucklehead in front of me complained all the way through because the characters made stupid decisions leading up to disaster and that the movie was not realistic. THAT'S THE POINT!!! There would be no movie if people didn't screw up and disaster was not in the horizon. That being said... this movie is worth the price of admission simply for how beautiful it looked. It was like watching sci-fi art. If you like the tense heart pounding moments of 28 days later in a beautiful landscape... this movie is for you. I can only imagine how awesome this movie would look in HD. If you like sci fi... get this movie!!!! If you like art.. get this movie! And cillian murphy who is british has the potential of becoming the Johnny Depp of England. I really like him as an actor and the rest of the cast was a good mix of mainly unknowns. Get this movie!
Movie Review: Two reasons: purpose and soundtrack Summary: 5 Stars
I *loved* this movie. Probably because I knew nothing about it going in, and because I first saw it on the SyFy channel. Believing it to be a SyFy original (which means horrible), I had low expectations.
What I loved about the movie most is the singular focus displayed by most characters in the movie. I was caught up in the hard choices and sacrifices that were made for the sake of their mission. It was inspiring. I thought Chris Evans was magnificent in projecting his character's fierce dedication to the mission.
Oh yeah, the soundtrack was wonderful. I'd rank it up there above some of my favorites: Jurassic Park and Braveheart.
Sure, there are some technical inconsistencies, the special effects were average at best, and the plot got a little off-track near the end. But I'm willing to let that slide. I *loved* this movie.
