Movie Review: Charming Disney Classic
Summary: 5 Stars
If you loved Pollyanna, you'll enjoy this Disney classic featuring Haley Mills, Burl Ives, Jerry Mathers (Leave it to Beaver), and other familiar faces. After the loss of their father, a city family decides to move to "the yellow house in Beula" out in the country, living a simpler (and more economical) life-style. Although this is not a musical, there are many memorable musical numbers woven into the story such as "The Ugly Bug Ball" and "Summer Magic". Although one musical number, "Walk Feminine", is a bit out of date, it does not detract from the overall appeal of this movie.Movie Review: LOVELY HAYLEY SHINES!!!!!

This is Hayley at her prime! Definitely one of her better movies with a great supporting cast. Very nice songs and pretty country scenery. Nice to see the legendary Burl Ives in a movie. This is a fine film for the family when Disney REALLY knew how to make wonderful family films. Hayley starred in so many great ones for Disney but ironically, her BEST and MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE FILM, "The Trouble With Angels," was from Columbia Pictures. Buy this movie and enjoy one of the BEST YOUNG ACTRESSES that Hollywood ever saw----and one that we will forever love!!!Movie Review: A not to miss Disney classic

I really like Hayley Mills and classic Disney films. It has wonderful songs, a sweet story and not to forget characters. Burl Ives as Mr. Ossium Poppum is a real hoot! He is kind and loving and yet he is not telling the truth most of the time, so he is constantly caught up in his own lies. He lies to help out others and gets tripped up in the end. Yet, as he says, "Every cloud has a silver lining." and it pans out as true. His lie becomes truth as the owner of the beautiful yellow house in Bulah likes the family that is taking care of his property.
Movie Review: Pleasing story with good songs

Very good songs by Burl Ives, Hayley Mills, and the cast. Good story. Good Walt Disney film for both children and adults. Country and period setting. Charming Dorothy McGuire from Disney's "Old Yeller" and "Swiss Family Robinson". A pleasant surprise. Some good humor between two young ladies politely and subtly, but aggresively, competing for the same young man. It is hard to find many good musicals. These songs were written by the same Sherman Brothers of "Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" fame. Haley Mills is charming.
Movie Review: Favorite Hayley Mills film

I am a big fan of Hayley Mills; I grew up watching all the movies she was in when she was young. Although Parent Trap and Pollyana are close behind, Summer Magic is my favorite! I'm not sure if it's due to the story, the scenery,the fabulous cast, the music (Femininity & the song Burl Ives sings on their front porch are my favorites), or a combination of all those factors, but Summer Magic is definately a must-see for any fan of Hayley Mills or of classic Disney films.
