Movie Reviews of Strength Building YogaMovie Review: Just the right pace and flow Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD by Rodney Yee is very well timed, giving you enough
time to warm up, then takes you into strength building. The poses
are held long enough to let you get into them, and feel the muscles
working. The fact that there is no rushing through the asanas is a good thing -
it's supposed to be deliberate and mindful, traditionally. This
yoga practice does more for me than going to the gym. I come out of it
with a better sense of well-being overall. Plus, Rodney's sense of
calmness is a benefit too. It's just great.
Movie Review: Fantastic! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this DVD last month, and at first found some of the asanas quite challenging but with diligent practice, I've been able to hold most of the poses and balances. The last two poses in the video are very hard, but it gives me something to work towards. The pace of the video is perfect for me. Rodney is a wonderful teacher, and the calm and gracefulness he exudes comes right through the TV screen onto me. I always finish this video feeling great!
Movie Review: Excellent but challenging Summary: 5 Stars
I started Yoga about 8 months ago at our local community college. I have purchased several DVDs to supplement my class. Rodney Yee has a calm and soothing voice. The inverted poses are a challenge for a beginner like my but I just go at my own pace and do my best.
Movie Review: This DVD helps strengthen out your poses. Summary: 4 Stars
This has a lot of challenging asanas as well as some gentle ones for beginners. It is a tape that you can grow into as you improve your yoga skills. The main reason why I'm using this DVD is to properly strengthen some of my poses that I'm still a bit shaky on.
Although I have to agree with the reviewer who noted that the final segment of the tape contains two impossible poses such as the super challenging arm-balances, which you may need an instructor to help you with if you've never done them. This segment literally comprises no more than a minute or two of the otherwise wonderful 75 minutes of the entire tape. I usually make up my own modifications for these two poses and just go along with it -- it's a very insignificant portion.
I like how this DVD moves slowly enough so that I can really get into the poses, feeling each one, and practicing them. Then, when I go back to other DVD's, I notice an amazing difference in strength, balance, and flexibility. I also appreciate that he merely names the next pose without unnecessary cheerleading a explanation -- if you've learned the beginning poses elsewhere, it makes it very soothing and allows you to concentrate fully on the poses without undue distraction. This DVD also provides options for more advanced work, either repeating vinyasa or holding certain poses for longer amounts of time.
Overall, this DVD is very calming and resourceful. I look forward to each workout with this tape and will purchase others similar as this, probably the Flexibility because I have my eye's set on that one......... Namasta.
Movie Review: Great practice Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great practice if you don't mind that its divided into two sessions which breaks up the flow but its a good intro for those wanting to focus on shoulder, arm, and core strength. As always, Rodney is a fantastic teacher.
