Movie Reviews of Streets of FireMovie Review: Good old fashioned movie making, without all the fuss... Summary: 5 Stars
It took me a while to decide to write this because I wanted to really make a statement. But all I could come up with was "I love this film." I have not seen this film in years, and recently received it as a gift. As I sat watching it, I recalled those simple times of the 80's. I am a huge film buff and to be able to revisit this lovely film again, was a real treat. The music has withstood the test of time and the visual candy is still as rich as ever. My vast collection of DVD's has been temporarily abandoned, as all I want to watch is this film. I have watched it every night since I got it, nearly a week ago. I would not hesitate to put it on my top 10 list of favorite movies of all time. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good story of a beautiful girl trapped in a tower by a hideous beast (in this case a very young Willem Defoe), saved by a knight in shinning armour (in this case the very gorgeous Michael Pare). Get it, you will not be disappointed.
Movie Review: Posterized view of an action film Summary: 5 Stars
Take an action movie, with the usual brooding good guy, turn up the colors so that the whole thing has a bit of a cartoonish edge. Add some better than expected performances, such a Willem Dafoe bad guy that is just short of way over the top, and you have a movie deserved way more attention than it got. Michael Pare did probably his best job of his usual taciturn, almost antisocial, hero. (He always does that, and I haven't exactly figured out why- seen on interview shows he comes across as much more alive and engaging) Diana Lane projects an incredible image as Ellen Aim, making one wonder what happened to her for the period of years she seemed to just not be around.
Set in an indetrminate year, implied to be late 50's but with some music more suited to it's 80's time frame, and the classic (although unstated) Vietnam vet hero, it's a movie that fits a saturday night friends movie night at the house.
Movie Review: Classic Postmodern Entertainment Summary: 5 Stars
To take Streets of Fire literally is to not get it. The movie is a slice of life in a post apocalyptic alternate universe. The stylistic justapositions of 40's and 50's cars and 80's fashion and Jim Steinmen songs are characterizations of this post nuclear fractured world Walter Hill created. Remember the Warriors? The movie is a triumph of style over substance and succeeds to the level of near cult status. I am reminded of Flashdance's success, which practically succeeded in spite of itself. There are no profundities in the movie; the plot is basic; the acting did not garner any award nominations. Nevetheless, I am charmed everytime I view it. I always become perplexed however when I see SOF at why and how Diane Lane has never become the major movie star she clearly is in this movie. If you liked the movie prior to DVD, you will treasure it in DVD.
Movie Review: What A Memory!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of those cheesy little movies that todays audience just wouldnt get. Of course, Diane Lane is just too hot for words, even today, but look at the other actors in this movie who went on to much bigger thnigs (Willem Dafoe, Michael Pare, and Rick Moranis were all great in this movie). And then theres a lesser known actor named Stoney Jackson, who never made it as big as he should have. Look for others in the background that you may recognize.
The music is the star of this movie! If you arent moving from the first tune, you just dont know how to appreciate music. Jim Steinman is a master composer and it shines through on this soundtrack.
Say what you will about it, but I love this movie and watch it over and over now that I have it on DVD. Its just what it says it is at the beginning...A Rock N Roll Fable...
Movie Review: fun movie...great music Summary: 5 Stars
streets of fire is really just a lot of fun to watch...over and over and over again -- the music is first rate -- the intro song (nowhere fast)and ending song(tonite is what it means to be young) are as good as it gets -- you really just want to crank up the stereo with those two songs -- i think jim steinman is the name of the guy of wrote the songs(also he wrote meat loaf's paradise by the dashboard light) -- the plot line is light but enjoyable -- good score by ry cooder as well -- if you like michael pare in this, you'll also like "eddie and the cruisers", another good rock'n roll movie -- diane lane is an underrated and beautiful actress as the lead singer -- you can't go wrong with this if you just want to hang out and relax...and then crank up the volume -- really, you can't go wrong with this movie --
