Movie Reviews of StepmomMovie Review: Stepmom is a gem Summary: 5 Stars
This movie never fails to move me - the actors portray REAL emotion. Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Alone) directs with a deft hand, allowing some of the intertwined relationships' rough edges to show.
At certain points in the film (yeah, like half of it) the waterworks start - I have to keep a box of Kleenex VERY handy.
The reviewer who gave one star and titled their review "Boring" must have a heart made of stone (with a knowledge of usage and vocabulary to match).
Highly recommended, insanely entertaining. Yes, Susan Sarandon does walk away with the movie. But that's not to discount the performances of Julia Roberts and Ed Harris, and of the children, Jena Malone and Liam Aiken, and in a smaller role, Lynn Whitfield as the oncologist.
Plenty of laughs+lots of tears=one great film.
Movie Review: a very touching movie Summary: 5 Stars
i saw this movie with my friend and her family. i was so touched by what i've seen but i was very ashamed to cry. but then the tears just keep rolling down my cheeks and i can't help it. i have been a follower of julia roberts and susan sarandon for as far as i can remember. i guess seeing them on screen together made a big difference. very seldom do i see films with two of my favorite actresses in it at the same time. i really love this movie. if i could, i'd watch it all over again on the big screen. for me, that is the only way to really enjoy the movie---it makes you feel like you are part of the movie or something. i don't know, that's just how i feel. whenever i watch a movie i really, really like...i imagine that i am a part of it but i'm only a spectator. i guess my imagination takes me farther than i expect.
Movie Review: A lovely film. Wonderful - You must see this Summary: 5 Stars
This film is a wonderful insight into the all to frequent scenario of a broken home in which both children and hatred are thrown. The characers are wonderfully played, by Susan Sarandon, Julia Roberts and Ted Harris, and the whole package is very realistic. The story is in parts joyful, in parts sad, and in others harrowing. Mothers will sympathise with Susan Sarandon, whilst Step Mothers will sympathise with Julia Roberts. Divorced men will appreciate Ted Harris. For those fortunate enough to have not experienced anything like this, Stepmom teaches us a valuable lesson. This is a wholly convincing film, and a welcome break from action movies, if nothing else. This is a film which wholly surprise me, and I have fallen in love with. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone as a first choice.
Movie Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
This was an excellent movie, perhaps a tad unrealistic, yet amazing and give The " DIVORCED " some hope.
Now, on to the viewers, that want to attack this movie and the actress' is so very sad, even if one doesn't like an actress; .... WELL...... Get over it, don't watch their
Honestly, to attack a movie and the acting (which was amazing) is so sad and pathetic. People with your harsh words, you should THINK Before you save your reviews. Readers may not know who you are, yet in you lonely and bitter reviews, you can see just how jaded you must truly be. It's sad, and ugly.
This is an amazing movie and extremely touching. People get divorced and they do die. Reality, coping and life. Great movie, even better acting. A must See!
Movie Review: Very entertaining Summary: 5 Stars
Several of the reviewers here have said that Julia Roberts was very "unrealistic" in her efforts with the children & her efforts to please the Ex-wife, but I actually dated a man for two years who had five children, and I played this role in real life "exactly" the way Julia played it. I helped take care of the kids, picked them up, coped with ex-wife's temper tantrums, etc. for one reason. I was anticpating a life with this man, and I knew that the better we could all get along, the better off the children would be. I did not want to live in a war zone. So, her part was not so unrealistic. The ironic thing in my situation was that I loved the kids, became great friends with the ex-wife, and ended up leaving the man, who turned out to be a jerk!
