Movie Reviews of Stellaluna

Movie Review: okay kids movie
Summary: 3 Stars

I finally saw this movie two year after it was original released in august of 2004. Just to inform you this movie is drastically shorter than a normal modern animated movie which is ussualy about 65 to 90 minutes in running time including the credits. This movies only about 41 minutes. This movie was based of the the children book which was released in the mid 80s. There have been some changes made from the book. There are some short musical numbers that were not in the original book. There were also some new scenes in this movie. There were three new characters add a super hero trazan like spider and two birds a male Tuccan and a female parriot. There was a hillarious funny scene were Stellaluna gets a make over. Despite it's short running time this movie has great musical numbers a and good life leason about being your self and being who you want to be. A little warning this movie has a few parts that may be scary for really young children under the age 5. There is one very very mild cartoon violent part at the end when Stellaluna attacks the owl who is the villian and bodyslam him while in mid air. This movie should be fine for kids ages 6 and up. This movie really is a heart warming tale

Movie Review: It's entertaining, but not a faithful retelling of the book
Summary: 3 Stars

Both my preschooler and I enjoyed the book "Stellaluna" and when we came across this MGM produced DVD of the story, we were quite excited to check it out. Upon watching it however, we both realized that this DVD version is very different from the original story with many embellishments and introduction of new characters. Despite that, my 4-year-old daughter enjoyed this movie - the animation in quite well done and the little bat Stellaluna looks adorable. We both didn't much care for the songs in this movie [which come with the options of turning it on or off for sing-along].

Conclusion - this adaptation will offend purists with its Hollywood approach to the story [well, the book is relatively short, and this show runs about 41 minutes]. However, if you're ok with a less than faithful adaptation purely for entertainment purposes, this DVD just might fit the bill.

Movie Review: Okey kids movie
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a fairly new movie been out for a little over two years. This movie should be fine for kids ages 6 and up some parts like when Stelluan body slams the owl while in mid air may be two violent and intense for kids younger than six. This movie just to let you now is drastically shorter than a normal animated movie which is ussually aboutn 65 to 90 minutes with the credits included . Even though this movie is less than 45 minutes it has cute characters decent musical numbers and good life lessons of accepting people for who they really are on the inside. This also has three new characters a super hero trazan like spider and a female parriot and male toucan. For those of you that loved the book you will enjoy this movie. This movie says beauty is really in the eye of the beholder.

Movie Review: Well...

My kid was psyched to find this DVD, since they read this story at her school all the time. And I think she liked the adaptation okay; it's not much worse than other modern kid's cartoons. The thing to know about this "Stellaluna" cartoon is that the music is absolutely AWFUL. Just dreadfully, utterly, completely tacky and bad. If having your kid not hear terrible music, avoid this one. If you don't really care, I guess it's okay. Very sub-Disney, similarly formulaic, but not as good. (Axton)
