Movie Review: Underrated movie from the 80s hopefully not forgotten Summary: 4 Stars
This touching movie about a loser who finds his way back home through the death of a lost love and close friend brings him back from the brink of self destruction as he reflects on more happier times when he was young and inocent. The move itself is not overdone or depressing by any means of course you will lough and cry as this is the job of the movie but at the same time its great family viewing for everyone. most people who pan it seem to be comparing it to other 80s movies but this is not the case the movie itself is universal and in need of retelling and rethinking instead of cheap critism
Movie Review: Reflection Summary: 4 Stars
The first time I watched this movie was in the early 90s and I was deeply touched. Enoughed that I realized after watching it recently that inadvertently a year ago I wrote a short story using the basic plot. I purchased the DVD after a long-time friend committed suicide and I was searching for answers regarding her death. I didn't get them, but the movie offered some comfort and made me continue to respect the beauty of life. If any art can help someone do that, then it's accomplished a lofty goal.
Movie Review: Caution Summary: 3 Stars
Indeed, it may be well acted and solid story, but because of the sad realities portrayed in the movie, the viewer should be in an emotional place to handle them. Poignant yes, but may not be suitable for someone who suffers from depression.
Movie Review: Obviously touches a chord with some people Summary: 2 Stars
but not with me. The film is so deliberate and obvious that I knew what was going to happen from scene to scene. Thats not so rare, but in a really good film, the performances can overshadow the story. Not in this case. With the notable exception of Jodie Foster, who does have some great moments, the actors in this film fall well short. Mark Harmon is miscast as the lead who goes back through the memories of his youth and his relationship with Foster. Its not that bad really, but then again, its really not that good. Ive seen it twice, just to be fair and it never hits any chords with me. The actor who plays Harmon in youth is cardboard and Silverman is just too goofy, but not in a funny or interesting way. I wish I had liked this movie, but it simply is a very mediocre movie and I am being kind when I say that. Without the aforementioned Foster adding some dimension to this film, I would say this is a serious candidate for one of the worst movies ever. I also know one thing, which is I could write a better screenplay than this. It is an overly and obviously sentimental movie that forgets how to be real. Skip this one unless its on tv. Thats what I did and I still felt cheated.
