Movie Reviews of Stealing HomeMovie Review: A pleasant surprise for me.... Summary: 5 Stars
Nothing much to add, as most reviewers have pointed out how "Stealing Home" came to touch our hearts in some way or another. Yet I want to express some of my feelings after watching this movie once again, this time on DVD. 1. The DVD itself kind of let me down due to its lack of so many features I'd expected (commentaries, producer's notes, deleted scenes etc...) Hopefully Warner Bros. will release a special or collector's edition to make up for that. 2. I may be wrong, but "Stealing Home" obviously tends to become a "classic" -- in the sense that it brings up a lot of memories or nostalgic sentiments to the viewer, just like what "Summer of '42" or "The Big Chill" always does to me. That being said, I got myself a pleasant surprise while going over all the reviews on Amazon.com and found one written by Katie Kampmann -- who played "baby Hope" and whom the main character played by Jodie Foster was actually named after. If this wonderful movie grows with the "real" Katie, well, it also grows with many other people -- no doubt about it. And whenever we feel lost in life ("... when things get confusing, and believe me Billy, they will"), we can always go back to the treasure chest of our memories to find a mystical face or smile that'd give us the strength to move on in the right direction...
Movie Review: One of my top three films Summary: 5 Stars
I agree with the positive posts on this board. All I will add is that this is one of my top three all time movies, it made me love and enjoy Jodie Foster (more than I already did) and based on this movie, we almost named our daughter Katie. The character and how Foster portrayed her is one of those people that I always wish I was (of course w/o the suicide). Funky, free spirit, love of life....but it seems that the greatest people are also conflicted in some way. William McNamara is a doll - whatever happened to him? The whimsical Flying Horses and Katie's dislike of this also make the film special. As one poster added, the images stay with you and whenever I am on a pier, I think of Katie and Billy Boy running down, arms wide open. I looked this film up again as we spent our summer vacation on the Cape (though I know they are in Long Island) and I dream to one day own a place like Sea Smoke. A truly special film, don't let anyone tell you differently. (And if you like this one...I would recommend my other top two "She's Having a Baby" - fun, cute, heartwarming and "Made in Heaven." The latter being as haunting as "Stealing Home" Enjoy.
Movie Review: NOSTALGIC MASTERPIECE!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I was shopping at a garge sale one day when i stumbled upon it. It didn't interest me that much to buy it, the only reason i did was because Jodie Foster looked like a beautiful Danish princess in the cover and it was 75 cents. It took about 2 weeks before i bought it to finally watch it, i was completley bored out of my mind, so i popped it in the DVD player and didn't really expect much. I WAS COMPLETLY BLOWN AWAY!! I'm so glad that i bought this amazing movie because it touches you in the most deepest ways. The acting is so sincere, the story is gorgeously crafted in a way to generate nostalgia of those better days, and to top it all off, the most gorgeous instrumental music you will ever hear laces it's way in and out of the movie beautifully! I will definatly be rewatching this film over and over.
They don't make movies like this anymore so
BUY THIS FILM!! it is truly wonderful
Im also heading to my cart to purchase the wonderful soundtrack!
I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS!
Movie Review: Emotional Rollercoaster including FUNNY! Summary: 5 Stars
A Seriously underrated movie. Take Mark Harmon's comedic talent (which most directors ignore) and his more serious talent, combine them and you will get a great movie. He starts off as a self loathing ex athlete and works his way thru the pain in some seriously funny scenes as well as the self examination he goes thru. Have worn out part of one DVD hitting reverse just to see the poison ivy scene....He and Harold Ramos are a scream coming out of the bar....singing. Jodie Foster is so beautiful in this movie and plays very well with the young Billy Wyatt character. Her great talent shows even in this early film. Love the fact it was filmed in the USA and using Mark Harmon's Minor League Baseball team the San Bernardino Spirits. This is for young and old alike. My children and I watch it with their grandparents every time a new season of Baseball starts.....
Movie Review: home run Summary: 5 Stars
This little gem is near-perfect from start to finish. You know you are in for something special from the first note of David Foster's rich, sensitive musical score, which is an integral part of the architecture of the film. Jodie Foster is unforgetable as a free-thinking 50's teenager and, later, a troubled woman who commits suicide. She leaves her ashes to life-long friend Billy (Mark Harmon) and as he remembers her, an intricate series of flashbacks take us to various stages of his life. Playing Billy as a teenager, William McNamara is sweet, beautiful, and touching as the young ballplayer who gives up a promising career. Billy must find a place for Katie's ashes and, at the same time, his own reason for being. This is a labor of love on the part of the writer/directors, and they hit it out of the park.
