Movie Reviews of Starsky & Hutch (Full Screen Edition)

Movie Review: Starsky & Hutch
Summary: 4 Stars

tarsky & Hutch is the latest 70's television show to receive an upgrade to the movie screen. Was this necessary? Probably not, but the result is a really funny movie. Taking the "Brady Bunch" approach, and placing their tongues firmly in cheek, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson assume the roles made popular on the small screen so many years ago. Ben Stiller is the somewhat anal Starsky and Owen Wilson is the laid back Hutch. And while there is a plot somewhere in there, the movie's focus is the relationship between the two. After being teamed together, they are out to bust a drug dealer, played by Vince Vaughn, who has developed cocain that cannot be detected by narcotics dogs. The plot allows them to go undercover, get some girls, and have some action scenes. I firmly believe that there will be a sequel to this, especially if the film does well (which I think it will). Stiller and Wilson have a comroderie that has worked well in previous movies, and is even more evident here. If you are looking for a laugh, check out Starsky & Hutch.

Movie Review: So Glad I Went To See It
Summary: 4 Stars

I just want to start by saying that I have never been a fan of Stiller or Wilson. Recently, I watched Shanghai Knights and that completely changed what I think about Owen Wilson. He was just so funny!!! Well, Stiller on the other hand has never been in a movie that I have enjoyed, maybe not including Something About Mary. Additionally, after watching Zoolander, I really had doubts about Starsky and Hutch. Luckily my friends persuaded me to go with them and I mut say I was pleasantly suprised at the way that they both did such an incredible job and produced such a great movie with the director, who had directed Old School and Road Trip (two great movies). It might not be as great as the show back in the 70s but I'm guessing that only hardcore fans will be disappointed by this. This movie is filled with non stop laughter and even the most critical movie goers will be seen chuckling with the rest. If you liked Wilson in Shanghai Knights and want to see Stiller finally become a true comedian then it's a must go!

Movie Review: Much funnier than I had expected!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have to admit, when my husband wanted to go see this movie, I wasn't overly thrilled; I had never watched the original TV show and am not particularly a fan of slapstick comedy, which is what I expected this movie to be. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this movie contained well-written, witty humor. Although there certainly were some more sophomoric gags (eg, when the two main characters are reduced to drooling idiots at the sight of a woman's breasts), clever plot twists and excellent casting added a level of maturity to this comedy. Ben Siller and Owen Wilson had excellent chemistry, and neither character fit too neatly into a stereotype (ie, Siller's responsible Starsky had a weakness for his cool car and risky driving). I'm hoping that there's not a sequel, as I don't think the quality of the series is likely to continue (remember the second Brady Bunch movie?), but this movie definitely proves that TV shows can sometimes make a successful transition to the big screen.

Movie Review: Very Good Spin
Summary: 4 Stars

I must admit that I have only seen the original television show once or twice, but it really doesn't matter because this movie is a prequel. I honestly was not expecting too much out of this movie, because most old television shows that are turned into movies, are really bad (i.e. Mod Squad). Then I looked at who was directing this movie and who was staring in it and my hopes became higher. This movie actually worked.

Ben Stiller plays Starsky, the by the rules cop, and Owen Wilson play "Hutch", the surfer dude type cop whom always tries to benefit from his busts. The two actors have great chemistry together on screen. Vince Vaughn plays the cocaine dealer, I forgot his name, and does what he normally does in his movies. This movie had many funny parts and for some reason, I can't help laughing everytime that I see Stiller on the screen. If you want a movie that will make you laugh, check out this movie.

Movie Review: Funny!
Summary: 4 Stars

There's two things you can't go wrong with - Starsky & Hutch and Ben Stiller. I'm a HUGE fan of the TV series and there are tons of jokes that reference the original series. Ben Stiller nails a "cartoon" version of Paul Michael Glaser's Starsky. Owen Wilson's Hutch is nothing like David Soul's rendition, except that he's blonde. Still, when he breaks out the guitar and sings "Don't Give Up on Us Baby" I could hardly stop laughing. Even if one does not get the references back to the original show, it's a very funny movie that pokes a lot of fun at the 70s. Stiller and Wilson work well togther and make an excellent team. Snoop gives his own fun spin to Huggy. Will Farrell, while his part is small, is the icing on the cake. Great movie, a lot of fun. A sequel could be a great idea.
