Movie Reviews of Star Wars - Episode II, Attack of the Clones (Widescreen Edition)Movie Review: The Real Bad Turns that Genetics and Cloning Can Take Summary: 5 StarsThe Star Wars Saga continues with Attack of the Clones, a title that spells the forbiding doom that the Phantom Menace prepared to unleash in Episode I. Ten years after the first episode, things are only getting worse for the galaxy that popped out of the mind of writer/director George Lucas. The characters from the first film have developed tremendously, and like I said before, the decisions that they make take dark, and saddening turns. However, the excitement from the first episode is still intact, if not better, than it was before, and the anticipation of the third episode is really the best part of the viewing. A superior sequel if I ever saw one.
Movie Review: Very very bad sequal! I'm very angry as a fan of the series. Summary: 1 StarsThis is bad. It stinked! I mean really and you can check my profile I don't usually go out of the way to give this bad of a review. Is there a minus star? Not just that it was bad it ruined all the other episodes and what Star Wars was about. I am very disappointed and insulted. This was about the same as a muppets cartoon. Lucas are you serious and have you lost your marbles? What a stab in the back to the orginal fans. Growing up I remember seeing Star Wars at a very young age when it first came out but it was not just for kids it was for everyone. Attack of the clones took a good movie series and made it into a cartoon that is for non-Adults without all the great actors that the orginal films had with real roles. Surely they could have done a better job. It's too bad they ruined what could have been a great movie. I don't know what kind of mentality (other than a very young child) a person would have to sit though this entire movie without getting up and walking out. What an injustic to Star War fans. You think that at some point it will get better. Don't waste your time.
Movie Review: Star Wars Episode II, Attack of the Clones Summary: 2 StarsWow, how could such a great series produce something that's just, how do I put it lightly, bad?
Every part of this movie's acting was bad, with the exception of Ewan McGregor, Samuel L. Jackson and Frank Oz is, of course, Frank Oz. Anakin's actor has now been replaced with.... (plays dark music) Prettyboy Hayden Christianson. How do I discribe this guy, well, something like this: If this guy was shot for every time he delivered a line badly, his remains would make Freddy Kruger look like an amateur. Next is Natalie Portman reprising her role as Senator (formerly Queen) Amidala, it's not that she's necessarily bad, it's just, she's just not any good.
Now let me elaborate on the rest of the painful badness of this film. Not only was the acting bad, but the lines that they spoke were bad, it felt like a very bad soap opera. Let's see, what 'highlights' (snickers) can I remember from this film? Well there was: "I hate sand, it's so rough and course, but not like you, you're soft, and smooth", yes, that one had me ready to throw up. Let's see, what else, oh! There was: "Don't leave, your presence is soothing", no joke, they actually said that (it was so bad, in fact, that the actor reminded me of Napoleon Dynamite when he said it!). One interesting thing abut the movie is that it was very political. No, not like an allogory, it just made it's own politics and took them very seriously. Now this may have been interesting in the books which expand and fill in the story, it's not interesting here, because, in this movie, nothing is interesting. I don't know why, it just felt, irrelevant, totally pointless sequences of blabbering on and on, I wouldn't so much mind this if they hadn't spent the entire half of the movie that wasn't taken over by anakin being spazmatic with it. What a drag.
I would have given this movie 1 star if it weren't for Ewan McGregor and an awesome (but corny) ending battle sequence.
Movie Review: Forbidden Jedi love Summary: 2 Stars"Attack of the Clones" is a superior follow-up to the tepid and soulless "Phantom Menace." It's mainly about Anakin's developing forbidden romance with Padme, and how he breaks the code of Jedi celibacy for her. There are subplots involving Count Dooku (Christopher Lee with a thankless name) and the clone army that gives Boba Fett and his doubles to the universe.
Anakin's forbidden love for Padme could've been a highlight of the movie. There could've been a real struggle,a sort of galactic Thornbirds, with Anakin torn between his desire for Padme and his duties as a Jedi knight. There was lots of potential. Unfortunately,George Lucas squanders it with zero chemistry between the leads, sappy dialogue, and more suspension of disbelief than should be expected of a sci-fi film fan.For example,in the beginning,Padme tells Anakin she feels as if he's stalking her. Later on,after Anakin shares his dream of ruling the universe with absolute raw power,Padme gets flirty. Okay,he's slightly creepy, but it's Tuesday,so she's in love? The romances on daytime soaps are more believeable.
"Attack of the Clones" has its highlights in Ewan Macgregor's charming performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi. He is a great Scot. Its other highlight is the spectacular special effects and world building. Padme&Anakin's love may be boring, but it gets beautiful settings in Northern Italy (and Padme even gets better costumes) "Attack of the Clones" works as an action flick, not as a tale of forbidden love.
Movie Review: Anakin begins to unravel Summary: 5 StarsThis, the second of the Star Wars "prequils", moves along much better than "Episode 1: Phantom Menace". In fact, the movie never seems to get boring; especially if you are familiar with the original trilogy and are interested to learn the history of the Republic and how it got to be an Evil Empire.
Young Anakin is truly conflicted, and we get to see how this promising young Jedi apprentice begins to unravel towards the Dark Side. The actor who plays Obiwan does an excellent job, as he did in Epidsode 1, of capturing Alec Guiness's essence and conception of the character. And the events that lead to the Battle of Geonosis are quite interesting, although it took me a couple of viewings to understand it completely.
Evidently, The Republic's Chancellor Palpatine is also the Evil Darth Sideos. The entire Battle between the Separatist Droid Army (led by Count Dooku) and The Republican army of Clones and Jedi Knights (led by Master Yoda) has been secretly orchestrated by Palpatine/Darth Sideos in attempt to consolidate power as Chancellor Palpatine during wartime. He is a master manipulator who has everybody fooled. The goofy and incompetent Jar Jar Binks puts the wammy on it when, as a Congressman, he is fooled into nominated the chancellor for "emergency power".
This movie is packed with excitement throughout. It also contains some interesting messages on war and how war destroys and decieves the spirit. Anakin's meltdown on Tantooie illustrates Yoda's main point: "Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering".
"Attack of the Clones" helps set the historical foundation to the Original Trilogy with excitement, depth of characters, super effects and vivid images.
