Movie Review: FECES!!!
Summary: 1 Stars
To call this DVD set "Pirate Quality" would be an ABSOLUTE insult to video pirates around the world. I have seen some pretty awful quality in my time, from $65 Pakistani Bagpipes, to 25 cent screwdrivers that snap in half the firt time you try to drive a screw.
Then when you think quality cannot possibly get any worse, VO?LA! Along comes the ST Voyager DVD set to make a liar out of you.
The packaging is pathetic! Paramount must have spent more on buying off the conscience of their quality-control personnel than they would have on real packaging.
I TRIED to watch the first episode and it kept sputtering and stopping. I thought, "Not to worry, I have an industrial strength DVD ripper. I'll burn a backup." Then I thought, "Just in case, I'll start disc 2 ripping while I'm watching the first." My industrial strength ripper not only couldn't read the bloody thing, it didn't even recognize it as being a video type disc! That's where my efforts stop.
Tomorrow the whole set goes to Paramount in a plain brown wrapper with a simple note: I don't want a refund. Just keep this junk!

Enjoyed this series on tv, and enjoying it even more now that I can watch it in its entirety. This series did a fine job of character development. I also like the occasional references to the previous series Deep Space Nine. Many of the special features are excellent as well, describing the technology of the time (some of it surprisingly simple), and how ideas for the show had some roots in real science. While $335 might be higher than a lot of other dvd sets of other shows, it's about half of what this set used to be. It'll get cheaper over time but it's already been available for years, and a lot of people have waited long enough. This price is $48/season, or less than $2 per episode. I actually bought the set on eBay paying $265, and I'm perfectly happy paying $1.57 to watch an episode of Star Trek Voyager. Throw in the dvd extras of behind the scenes footage, character developement, CGI information and other bonuses and I don't have any complaints.
