Movie Reviews of Star Trek - The Motion Picture: The Director's Cut (Two-Disc Special Collector's Edition)

Movie Review: Good Story - Stiff Acting - Sophomoric Directing
Summary: 2 Stars

I like the story - i hated the acting: way too stiff and predictable. I was disappointed at Robert Wise's directing especially from a guy who gave us Clatu Barata Nicktu (The Day the Earth Stood Still).

The whole thing betrays the characters of Kirk Spock McCoy from the original tv series. The series didn't take itself seriously nor were the characters arrogant and overly military-ish like they are in this movie. As a Star Trek piece though, I think the movie is worth viewing and does have somewhat of a fit with the star trek universe. It is not something that I'd see over and over again like "Wrath" "Voyage" and "Undiscovered" - they were superb pieces of science fiction and virtual visual smorgasbords with intricate and interesting plots and sub-plots - delicious star trek. "Contact" and "Insurrection" are just as good. The "Motion Picture" is okay but a meal I couldn't serve without copious amounts of Romulan Ale, if your get my drift.
