Movie Reviews of StacyMovie Review: You always kill the ones you love. Summary: 3 Stars
STACY takes place in a world where teenaged girls everywhere are succumbing to a mysterious condition known as "near death happiness." These girls fall into a dreamlike, ecstatic state before suddenly expiring - and shortly thereafter, rising again as cannibalistic zombies. There is no cure, so parents are urged to kill their own daughters. If they can't do the job themselves, special troops can be called in to do it for them.An insert included with the DVD package talks about a Japanese concept that describes the obsession many people have with innocence and beauty and things they can't have, and also the notion that by destroying something, you set it free. Even though this is touched on near the end of the film, it is a bit difficult to ascribe such depth to a film in which girls in bunny suits hawk chainsaws dubbed "Bruce Campbell's right hand" on TV for the purpose of using it on NDH victims, and in which a young man embraces an undead girl (who is gagged for his protection, of course) and claims she is his lover. Had the film been more serious than silly, I'd be more inclined to find meaning in it. (I can't help but think such a film could have been quite good.) In any case, you can take it or leave the critical analysis as you please; whatever works for you. As it stands, STACY is an often funny, gory, moderately entertaining movie. It is also - strangely - occasionally sweet, although again it is hard to take it too seriously. If you are into zombies or schoolgirls or both, and you enjoy the zany Asian attitude toward horror, you will probably enjoy this movie on some level. DVD notes: This release from Synapse is pretty basic. English subtitles are optional, and default to on which is appreciated. There is also a trailer. The film is presented in anamorphic widescreen.
Movie Review: Decent camp, but I expected more Summary: 3 Stars
STACY is chock-full-of EVIL DEAD references and other in-jokes, and features some wild gore scenes (although comicly done), but after years of waiting to see this I was expecting a bit more. Zombie completists will still want this for their collection. Fun, but a bit too corny for my taste.
Movie Review: what the ? Summary: 3 Stars
Interesting, shot-on-video low budget horror from Japan that works quite well in some places but is just plain silly in others. If you're looking for gross out effects that are completely over the top then look no further. Some of the imagery is quite haunting actually.
Movie Review: Could have been fun! Summary: 3 Stars

Movie Review: gore-fest or bore-fest? Summary: 2 Stars
When researching this film I had a hard time finding a trailer to view online, now I know why. This movie reeks, not just of rotting zombie flesh but from the indecipherable plot and slow moving story line. To begin with the zombies are sub-par. Though there is plenty of gore, the stumbling or shuffling zombie walk is excruciating in this movie. Its not like in Romero's film in which the motion of the zombies is somewhat believable. Here it is just painful to watch. Secondly, the story really has little to do with the zombies. There is only one 'rampage' scene in the film and it leaves a lot to be desired. "Stacy" tries to be campy, but succeeds only with extremely poor camera work. The music is absolutely horrendous. It adds nothing to the action, and actually severely detracts from it. The whole thing comes off like a Japanese soap opera that just happens to contain zombie girls. There are countless homage to Evil dead, and the films of Romero, but this thing has more in common with 'Dead Alive" than the dead trilogy. Be warned: This is a VERY Japanese movie! The themes expressed in it can only truly be appreciated by someone who has an intimate understanding of Japanese culture, specifically "Moe". Primarily the movie tries to tackle the fetishsized ideal of the innocent Japanese schoolgirl and its relation to the prurient interests of men, combined with the girl's longing for love. It fails miserably. If you are looking for a Japanese take on the Zombie genre, with some humor, but that has enjoyable zombie action then get "Wild Zero". If you like tons of unneeded gore, combined with poor production values then by all means get "Stacy".
