Movie Reviews of SprigganMovie Review: Very Good but not Great Summary: 4 Stars
I waited with salivating anticipation for Spriggan to come to America. When it finally arrived, I bought it without pause. I am not dissapointed.Spriggan has an okay story and very good action. It is also dubbed very well and the animation, while not world altering, is more than enough to get the idea across. But Spriggan also is not all that it could be. When I watched it, I liked the action sequences but I felt that much of it was more borrowed from other anime than origional. The hero is not unlike Jubei in Ninja Scroll or even the hero in Fist of the North Star. However, unlike these other characters, this guy is not well defined or fleshed out. The main villians also fall into some of the more stereotypical designs. If you are a Anime fan, you will find yourself recognizing many of them. The ending battle was very good but also anti-climatic. I guess I wanted a little more out of the final conclusion. I half expected the main Spriggan (the hero) to whip out some even more hidden powers like Dragon Ball Z or even Neon Genesis Evangelion ( he does have hidden powers by the way...Just not what I expected). "Sigh" that might not have worked but I still looked forward to it. Overall, if you collect Anime, you should buy this movie. But if you are looking for something epic and endlessly re-watchable, you might look elsewhere.
Movie Review: Worth Watching Summary: 4 Stars
Spriggan is an excellent anime, and more than worth watching in the theater rather than waiting for it on video. The plot is fairly standard SF anime fare: the hero is a high school student who works for a mysterious organization that tries to prevent ancient artifacts from falling into the wrong hands. He has to work to protect the artifact and the scientists who are studying it from the evil clutches of those who would use it destructively. This provides plenty of excuses for exciting chases, dramatic fight scenes, interestingly portrayed psychic powers, and fabulous displays of cosmic power. Everything in the movie is well done. The action scequences are exciting and well placed, and incorporate their fair share of interestingly designed weapons and gadgets. The drawing is high quality, and the animation is a good example of the modern mixture of cell and digital animation. The character designs are expecially well done, which you'd expect of a movie in which Katsuhira Otomo is heavily involved. As well made as it is, though, Spriggan simply isn't a great movie. That's not to say that there's anything wrong with it, as it's a very well made movie. It simply lacks the special spark that defines the difference between craftsmanship and genius.
Movie Review: An average anime action movie Summary: 4 Stars
Well what can I say,it has animation done by the folks behind anime classics like Metropolis,Akira, and Ghost in the shell, has well staged action sequences and superb soundtrack. Knowing that you might be expecting something the next Akira, but you might end up a bit dissapointed. Unlike other big budget animes that are more plot oriented, all Spriggan has going for it is nice animation and lots of action. The animation in the film is some of the best I've seen and the action sequences are some of the most intense i've in any other anime or live action film. There are a lot of elements like the pyscic child that seem to be ripped right out if akira, but hey that what happens when the creators of akira worked on this movie. The movie has lots of promise at first but then turns into a simple action movie. It's like your expecting something big like 2001:a space oddesy but end up seeing another James bond type action movie. All in all Spriggan isn't the best anime ever made,it's actually pretty average, but it's still worth to see once just for fun. I enjoyed the movie and plan to buy the dvd. Spriggan may not be as geat as akira or ghost in the shell, it's still up there on my list.
Movie Review: Funny, brainless, cool Summary: 4 Stars
Let me first say this: There are many different kinds of films in the world of anime. There's slow paced thought provoking dramas like Jin-roh, psycological mind-bending thrillers like Perfect Blue and visually impressive adrenalin rushes of action like Akira where the only moral seems to be "with great power comes great responsibility" and then the audience is treated to hours of explosions and psycic powers and imploding body parts and splat-gore-mutant-blood-screaming actionpacked fun to emphasize this point. Spriggan is another one of these. And as long as you realize that, before sitting down to watch it, you'll be okay with that beacause it does it really well. The action and the animation really IS impressive, and you will be entertained the whole way through as long as you don't expect the story to make sense, the characters to have more dimensions than the sheet of paper they were drawn on and the audience to walk away with any profound insight or valuable morale.Spriggan is just not that kind of flick. It is merely there to entertain. And it's not like it even pretends to attempt to go any deeper than that. So I'm cool with it.
Movie Review: A very fun action filled movie Summary: 4 Stars
I don't know what people mean when they say this movie reminds them of a James Bond film. In my eyes it by no means resembles one. Its kind of like a weird Indiana Jones Terminator mystical ghost in the shell kind of thing (not really - -). Its a fun movie and I suggest you watch it. Its basically about Noah's arc being found and it turning out to be a thing that can change the worlds climate and stuff. There are some good fight scenes but there are definetely better animes out there. I like this film better then Ghost in the shell because it actually keeps you involved the whole movie, and you don't ever want to stop it or fast forward.Try this one
