Movie Reviews of Spellbound

Movie Review: Spellbound
Summary: 5 Stars

The crowd-pleasing quality of "Spellbound" comes from the likeability of the eight kids featured, and the laudable values of self-discipline and self-improvement reflected in the parents' encouragement and coaching of their gifted progeny. Part of the fun, too, is trying to guess which of these word wizards--a boy from rural Missouri, an African-American girl from Washington D.C., a precocious child of privilege from suburban Connecticut--will triumph, but visibly agonized, socially awkward Harry Altman, from New Jersey, is the film's de facto icon. "Spellbound" will jangle your nerves and charm your socks off.

Movie Review: G-R-E-A.......T
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a documentary following 8 kids who go to the National Spelling Bee. Some are optimistic, some are pesimistic. But they all want to win. This isn't really as boring as you would think. Although one kid really got on my nerves (the kid on the cover), and others were just odd, this is a great story.

There are 8 kids who are competing in the National Spelling Bee. One can spit out words like a machine, one studies 8 hours a day, and one needs medications. But, they're all good. One of them wins (I'm not going to tell you which). You'll have to figure out for yourself once you buy it. NOW.

Movie Review: A Documentary More Suspenseful Than Any Hollywood Blockbuster!
Summary: 5 Stars

This documentary follows 10 different kids from very different backgrounds to their competition in the national spelling bee.You learn the many different ways they prepare and then you finally find out if all their hard work pays off... The hopes and dreams of the kids comes down to words so long and odd I've never heard of half of them before! The competition will keep you on the edge of your seat. You might assume a movie about spelling would be pretty boring but Spellbound has enough triumph and heartbreak to keep you glued to the screen.Stuff this riveting you can't make up...don't miss this one!

Movie Review: Surprisngly Intense!
Summary: 5 Stars

Unlike the overrated, puffed up Akeelah and the Bee, this simple documentary of kids competing for the national championship triumphs at capturing the desires, sentiment and drive of the children and even some of the parents. After being introduced to each child and becoming familiar with his background and homelife, I began waging bets within myself as to who would come out on top.

As the particpants begin to falter, the film becomes quite intense. This is a terrific film to watch as a family. Some of these kids are great role models.

Movie Review: Great Film!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great film that follows the young spelling champions to their ultimate goal of winning the national spelling bee competition. I loved every minute of this movie and I was surprised how much I was drawn into each of the story lines of these students. Watching the parents was interesting too as they talked about what winning this competition meant to their child as well as to them. How they helped - or didn't help - their children was interesting too.

Nothing objectionable in this film. Lots of fun. Enjoy!
