Movie Reviews of Species III (Special Edition)

Movie Review: A Slight Improvement Over Species 2.... but it's still garbage
Summary: 2 Stars

You know something is wrong with a movie when it's not released theatrically. And that it is exactly the case here. Species III was released in the Sci-Fi Channel in 2004 and shortly afterwards on DVD. Here in this 2nd sequel in the Species franchise we find another seductive alien on the loose only this time it is not played by Natasha Henstridge. The movie begins exactly where the last one left of, with Eve's body being loaded into the military truck, later on we find her giving birth to a pure breed Alien. The alien is taken by a scientist who for some unexplained reason is doing research on her species. Anyway just to give an insight this movie gives us a slight improvement over the previous entry... but its still garbage. The movie suffers from a lot especially bad lighting, which becomes excruciating after awhile. The acting is okay but the dialog is a bit confusing and sometimes for no real reason. The movie also has some minimal plot holes, such as half breeds still being alive after the 2nd picture (they were all killed supposedly in the barn in Specie II) and at times it suffers from poor character development, but other than that it can still be enjoyed as a comedy... because to me that's what this series really is... just on big cheesy sci-fi mess. Rent it or just watch it on the Sci-Fi channel when they air it.

MY PERSONAL RATING: 1 ? OUT OF 5

Summary of Species III (Special Edition)

In the ongoing fight for supremacy between mankind and human-alien hybrids a fatal hybrid weakness has given humans the advantage. Until now. When Sara (Mabrey) the daughter of Eve (Natasha Henstridge) is born she develops into the most generically perfect alien from yet! Seeking to repopulate her king his dangerously beautiful femme fatale heeds an overwhelming drive to mate while a crack military team trials her in an attempt to end the war between the two species forever!System Requirements: Running Time 111 MinFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre:?HORROR Rating:?R UPC:?027616919144 Manufacturer No:?1007854
If Species 3 lacks the star power of its previous incarnations - mostly notably Natasha Henstridge, whose participation here is relegated to a cameo - the movie succeeds in delivering lean, mean B-movie thrills by paring down the franchise's premise to its most exploitable elements - copious nudity and gore. Henstridge's voracious alien/human hybrid Eve dies gruesomely in the film's opening moments, but not before giving birth to an infant, who is rescued by a college professor (Robert Knepper) and grows into the pulchritudinous form of Sunny Mabrey. Unfortunately, she proves to be her mother's daughter in every way by setting out to mate with--and kill--any male unlucky enough to cross her path. While a definite step down in terms of plot and performance quality, Species 3 has glimpses of atmosphere and suspense in addition to the blood and skin shows, and makes good use of H.R. Giger's unsettlingly sensuous creature design, which should please franchise fans, gore hounds, and omnivorous sci-fi viewers. --Paul Gaita
