Movie Reviews of SpartacusMovie Review: BEWARE THE IMPORT DVD Summary: 5 Stars
In my opinion SPARTACUS is THE measuring stick for "Sword & Sandal" flicks. But, BEWARE of the IMPORT DVD (white case) you may be tempted to acquire. The wonderful Alex North score is treated without respect on that DVD. The opening credits are upcut and do not start at the very beginning of the music. The transition to the intermission is jarringly clumsey (another music upcut) and the entre'acte music is non-existant. Stick with the UNIVERSAL or CRITERION editions.
Movie Review: SPARTACUS, SPARTACUS Summary: 5 Stars
In my opinion, Spartacus is one of the best epic films that has ever been made. I was also pleased with the non-Hollywood ending. If you enjoy action movies or older history movies I highly recommend Spartacus.
The historical accuracy of the film is somewhat questionable But that does not make this movie any less a classic. Kirk Douglass performance as Spartacus is incredible.
Movie Review: A must have for your collection. Summary: 5 Stars
One of the all time classic movies really comes to life on DVD.After years of seeing grainy prints of this film on tv,you really can appreciate what a superb job the restorers have done.As well as an extra five minutes of the film, the soundtrack has also been lovingly extended. You think you've seen Spartacus on TV ? Unless you've seen this version you really haven't.
Movie Review: "Let me see his teeth" Summary: 5 Stars
Kirk Douglas (and his teeth) star in this true story about Spartacus...a Roman slave & gladiator who leads a rebellion against the Roman Empire. Co-starring the lovely Jean Simmons as his wife. Also co-starring Lawrence Oliver, Peter Ustinov, Charles Laughton, John Gavin & Tony Curtis. If you like Braveheart & Gladiator, you'll love this movie
Movie Review: One of the best stories about the Roman Empire Summary: 5 Stars
A classic of epic porportions! Kirk Douglas fighting the Romans. What more do you want? A gem of a movie, far surpassing today's digital products, and an excellent print with an excellent cast. Well written story! Another classic they don't make anymore, with great battle scenes! "A CAST OF THOUSANDS"
You won't be disappointed!
