Movie Reviews of Spanish Night - DomingoMovie Review: Simply fantastic!! Summary: 5 Stars
New to the Berliner summer concert series on dvd, I decided to take a risk and get Spanish Night. Just so you know, I am familiar with Sarah Chang, but I don't know much at all about Ana Maria Martinez, and have never seen Placido Domingo at the conductor's podium, and the reviews I've read looked pretty positive, mostly four & five stars, but we all know you can't put too much faith in reviews. So, good or not, I decided to get it.
Wow! What a treat! Placido Domingo connects with everyone on stage and in the audiance and he is a masterful conductor! Ana Maria Martinez is a fantastic Soprano and performs brilliantly! Sarah Chang is simply wonderful (my favorite is her violin solo of Meditation from Thais....beautiful)!
The Berlin Philharmonic is simply one of the best. This dvd concert is a must-have addition to anyone's concert collection and will most likely be one of your absolute favorites. You will play it over and over again. Heck, you might think I get a royalty for this review but I don't. Enjoy!
You will love it!
Movie Review: Delightful and one to rewatch again and again Summary: 5 Stars
This is an absolute treasure. I was mainly interested in Ana Maria Martinez, a favorite soprano of mine and one who should be more well known. What I got was much more than the divine Ana Maria. Sarah Chang was a delight and it was the first time I actually saw her play (I had heard her) and was impressed. Domingo arranged a delightful program of Spanish-themed music, new and familiar to me. Domingo is an international treasure and his charm came through, especially at the end where he wound up singing and conducting at the same time and then told the orchestra, "if you need me, call; I'm going to join the audience" and did, walking up and down the aisle singing and having a great time with the crowd.
Absolutely joyous.
Movie Review: A wonderful concert night for the family Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the DVD based on the previous review. After watching Seiji Ozawa's conducting, it took a little bit time to get used to that of Placido Domingo. The more I watch this concert, the more I enjoy it. Sarah Chang smile like it is so much fun to play the volin. Two of her performance alone is worth the money of the DVD. Everyone seemed to be enjoying being part of the concert. This is the so called "light classic". My mother and I are completely surprised by this wonderful concert. My mother borrowed the DVD to watch it with my Dad. My boy-friend who watched the concert with me requested me to get a copy of his own. The program is excellent and I am already missing my DVD. This is my most favor Concert!
Movie Review: Una Noche Festiva Summary: 5 Stars
This Berlin Philharmonic Waldbuhne concert from 2001 has almost everything you could desire in Spanish music (Falla's El Amor Brujo and Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez would have been nice if there were no time constraints). Placido Domingo was the genial host and conductor/singer. Puerto Rican soprano Ana Maria Martinez was terrific and Korean-American violinist Sarah Chang played a hot violin.
The orchestra played two of my favorite works: Chabrier's Espana and Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espanol.
This DVD provided 102 minutes of pure pleasure. I can't wait until Latin American Night comes out (11/17/09).
Movie Review: Simply the greastest classical musical inspired in Spain Summary: 5 Stars
I cannot stop watching this DVD every time I put it on my player. I adore Ana Maria Martinez and her great coloratura voice when she sings zarzuela (Spanish opera) and Sara Chang... Well, she is simply the best fiddler when it comes to fiery music (a lot of vibrato) like the one presented on this disc (with the exception of the encore MASSENET: MEDITATION FROM THE OPERA THAIS)... I hope someday this DVD (no regional code... thank you) will be issued in Blu Ray format.
