Movie Reviews of Soylent Green

Movie Review: Not really "science fiction"......
Summary: 5 Stars

......Actually of course it IS science fiction. But it was more of a warning message for the future. And, together with many similar voices, it may well have succeeded in exerting some of its intended impact. It was a warning against not just overpopulation but also loss of individuality, art, and humanity.

"Soylent Green" is a memorable film with a number of memorable scenes and images, and it has deservedly remained a cult classic. However, it is rarely mentioned in common parlance, and it isn't very well known . Why not? Perhaps its messages and images are just too horrible. But many of us believe they remain powerful, and important. I'm glad to see that its sales numbers are as good as they are.

Movie Review: ONE OF THE ALL TIME SF BESTS.
Summary: 5 Stars

FOR SOMEONE WHO WAS AN ARCH CONSERVATIVE, CHARLTON HESTON WORKED IN MANY MOVIES THAT WERE TAGGED AS RADICAL (AND EVEN "COMMUNIST", SUCH AS THE FIRST PLANET OF THE APES) WHEN THEY CAME OUT. SOYLENT GREEN, WHICH I USED TO SHOW IN A SCIENCE FICTION COURSE, IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES, AND UNCANNILY PREFIGURES THE PROBLEMS OF OVERPOPULATION AND FAMINE AND PROVIDES A GRUESOMELY LOGICAL SOLUTION FOR THEM. EDWARD G. ROBINSON SHINES IN HIS LAST ROLE EVER. HESTON IS HIS USUAL EFFICIENT MUSCULAR MACHO SELF. I MAY HAVE DISLIKED THE MAN, BUT I LOVED THE ACTOR, WHO NEVER GAVE LESS THAT HIS ALL, BE IT AS MOSES, BEN HUR, A LOST ASTRONAUT OR MICHELANGELO!

Movie Review: Don't eat the
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the great scifi movies of all time. An earth leached of its resources, resorting to alternative means of survival and sustenance. A portend of our future? Quite possibly if our population continues it growth unabated and our resources remain fixed in ultimate quantity. The best scene for me was Edward G. Robinson's final moments. All that we have and stand to loose viewed one more time before he goes. And while his spirit may go to what ever final rest or reward you may beleive in, its where his physical remains ends up at that forms the core to this movie. Remember, don't eat the green, soylent green is people.

Movie Review: Great Movie But Depressing
Summary: 5 Stars

This could very well be our near future if global warming continues. The Earth overpopulated. The world heating up due to the greenhouse effect. Food that is now widely available such as beef and strawberry jam only available through the black market. Voluntary death centers. And those little green crackers that Homer Simpson loves so well. "Mmmm Soylent Green!"

At one point this movie was hard to find and thought the government actually banned it. It would be good if everyone sat down and watched this movie to see what could happen in our future. "Soylent Green IS made out of..."

Movie Review: Premonition?
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw and enjoyed this movie at the time it was released in theaters, and got the DVD as soon as it was released. Not only it was an interesting scenario, but as well are included some very fine scenes which are a great match to Beethoven's 6th. And, if anyone should think the story being far-fetched, just remember the "Mad Cow" syndrome, and the reasons it did happen (much sooner than 2022) : maybe the writer, Harry Harrison, should be credited for alimentation what Jules Verne was for technology.
