Movie Reviews of Soylent GreenMovie Review: One of the Most Important Films in History Summary: 5 Stars
Richard Fleischer's Soylent green has been one of my favorite films since I saw it on tv on one of those great Saturday afternoon movies before the days of Infomercials. This is a thought provoking film that really needs to be viewed today. This is also one of the scariest films I have ever seen second only to 1984 as far as sheer terror goes. Though not a horror film, the really scary thing about this prophetic film is that we can see our world right now moving in the direction of the world of Soylent Green.
I hope they never remake this film, but if they do please don't mess it up with special effects that will take away from the story.
The DVD is great as well, loaded with special features and Commentary with Richard Fleischer the Director and Leigh Taylor Young who played the furniture Sheryl.
EASILY one of the best films ever made.
Movie Review: The price of strawberries in the year 2022 Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of those bleak future movies where there is a finite amount of resources and an unbalanced distribution of them. The one good point is that food processing as been perfected to the point that we get tasty blocs of colored nutrients. The best one, publicized as being made from plankton Soylent Green.
Detective Robert Thorn (Charlton Heston) is tasked with investigating a homicide in a ritzy section of town. During the investigation, he, with the help of his friend Sol Roth (Edward G. Robinson,) discovers a dirty little secret.
Shocking for the time of the movie release. Nowadays we would take it in our stride. This film is still worth watching.
Planet of the Apes
Movie Review: Wonderful Heston SciFi flick Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 1973 screen adaptation of Harry Harrison's 'Make Room!". The screenplay has taken great liberties with the original book, but this is nonetheless a very good movie.
The chemistry between Charlton Heston and the venerable Edward G. Robinson is a wonder. When they are dining on the ill-gotten real food that Charlton's character pilfered from a crime scene he was investigating, you could feel the culinary joy.
The movie is a grim interpretation of what our world will be like with unchecked population growth and resource consumption. Without giving away too much...Soylent Green ain't the Soy-Lentil combination of Harrisons' book....
Charlton Heston did some wonderful SciFi flicks in this period. Be sure to check out the more campy 'Omega Man', and of course 'Planet of the Apes'.
Movie Review: Great film Summary: 5 Stars
I really like this movie despite, and maybe because of, Heston's over-the-top
performance.
Edward G. Robinson turned in a great performance as Sol Roth in his final screen role.
Set in a 2022 dystopian NYC, where everyone wears ugly clothes and mills around
aimlessly, Heston must find out who murdered big shot Joseph Cotten.
Heston finds out more than he bargained for as he follows the trail, abetted by
his "book" Eddie G.
Nice post production touches like making the outdoor scenes seem heavily
polluted add to the oppressive atmosphere that pervades this film.
The DVD features some bonus extras including commentary by the director and the
digital transfer is excellent.
Highly recommended.
Movie Review: It's Peo....a great movie. Summary: 5 Stars
Being born in 1973 I missed out on this movie when it was first released. Having grown up a little bit and watching movies like Planet of the Apes, Capricorn One, Duel and so forth during the late 70's very early 80's, I had to search my memory banks on this movie; Soylent Green.
Can't believe I missed out on it all these years. This is a great movie! Heston is in his true form, and I feel gives a better performance here then in Planet of the Apes. Some people will make comments that it is cheesey or the plot is given away in the begenning. Cheesey by today's standards, nah not really. The story and plot are very engaging and this is a movie that can be watched and enjoyed by all generations.
