Movie Reviews of Southern Comfort

Movie Review: Window into another world...
Summary: 5 Stars

that looks a lot like this one. A good movie, like a good novel, takes you into the world of the character. You walk a mile in his shoes. You develop empathy. That is absolutely what happens in this amazing film. This is not a "Hollywood" version "based on a true story". You watch the story unfold in real life, with real people - amazingly ordinary people who offer a glimpse of their extraordinary souls. You get to know their everyday lives, their joys, and ultimately the sorrow that they are moving toward in this period of their lives. My one complaint is that the editing is a little lax on the central character. Perhaps the film maker could not bear to take more away from a man who was losing so much already. The transsexualism here is appropriately handled as an aside. It does not define the story or the people. This is a tragic story of injustice that nonetheless reveals the power of unconditional love and acceptance, and the triumph of the human spirit.

Movie Review: tragedy in trans world
Summary: 5 Stars

Southern comfort is a no holds bard look at a group of female to male transgender people and the tragedies surrounding their already difficult lives, its well worth watching whether or not you know anything about trans people, a very sensative but honest documentary, that doesn't hold back on the truth the main character a trans man called robert sadly died to to the ignorance of the medical proffessions and societys inability to accept people who don't fit its pigeon holes, god bless you robert and rest in peace darling thanks for all your hard work for the trans community, we won't let you down.

Movie Review: Great movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

A great movie that puts into perspective that transgendered people have the same desires and needs as all of us. They're "normal" people, just a little different. It also gives viewers a glimpse of the discrimination transgendered people face, even in today's world. It was a sad movie, but uplifting to know that the main character "Robert" lived his life with honesty and the best that he could given the situation we was dealt in life. It's also touching to see the relationship Robert had with his girlfriend (a male to female transgender). Very good and eyeopening!

Movie Review: Humanity
Summary: 5 Stars

This was an incredibly beautiful, perfectly edited documentary. At first I thought it was a movie "based on a true story"--Robert Eads was so charming and crusty and southern, it was hard to believe he wasn't playing a part. The film does a great job of showing the humanity, concerns and pain of the subjects. All the folks who consented to be shown on camera should be given medals of courage. The film is lovely, melancholy, sad, uplifting, and honest. I highly recommend it--for ANYONE. Heck, I think my *mom* should see it!

Movie Review: Brilliant, Beautiful, Enlightening!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best documentary films i have ever seen. PLEASE WATCH THIS, no matter who you are!! The amazing strength of this film is that the transgendered individuals whose lives are chronicled are not portrayed as in any way strange, bizarre, or freakish...they are portrayed as what they really ARE...fully **human**....compassionate heart-and-soul human beings...and not even the most homophobic viewer could miss that message. This is real, it's powerful, and trust me, have some tissues on hand.
