Movie Reviews of South Park: The Complete Eleventh Season

Movie Review: A funny but rather lackluster season
Summary: 3 Stars

South Park tells the story of four elementary school boys from rural Colorado. The boys at times act more indicative of 10 years than in most other shows especially with their foul mouths and their flair for manipulating adults.

The show's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, use South Park as a vehicle for social criticism. Unlike other contemporary comedies which strive only to be edgy, South Park is both edgy and current.
This season, the 11th, is a lackluster one compared to previous seasons. The belly laughs are getting further and further apart. And I'm getting the impression that Matt and Trey are trying too hard to drum up new ideas.

#1 With Apologies to Jesse Jackson
While on the popular game show "Wheel of Fortune", Randy Marsh embarrasses himself and everyone in South Park when he uses the "N" word. Stone and Parker poke fun of our collective white guilt in this episode while parodying Jesse Jackson's imperious attitudes.

#2 Cartman Sucks
Cartman is ever trying to embarrass poor Butters. His latest scheme is an attempt to prove Butters is gay by photographing Butters' penis in Cartman's mouth. Little does Cartman realize that this proves he himself is gay. Trey and Matt poke fun of the church movements that try to make gays straight.

#3 Lice Capades
There is a lice outbreak at South Park Elementary. And the kid who has lice is sure to be ridiculed mercilessly. The lice in question are dealing with their own dilemma: their effects on their world. Parker and Stone take aim at the environmental groups in this episode by parodying them as lice.

#4 The Snuke
A new kid arrives at South Park Elementary. Due to his Arab heritage, Cartman is convinced he is a terrorist. Trey and Matt make fun of the presidential campaign when they suggest Hillary Clinton has a nuclear weapon in her vagina.

#5 Fantastic Easter Special
Stan's questions about the origins of Easter leads him to a secret society called the Hare Club for Men. A parody of the freemasons or Knights Templar, this secret society protects the truth about Easter. Trey and Matt spoof the Da Vinci Code in this episode.

#6 Di-Yikes
A lesbian bar is being bought by Persians and only Mrs. Garrison can save the day. A parody of the popular movie 300, we see the lesbians taking on the role of the Spartans.

#7 Night of the Living Homeless
South Park is overrun with homeless and Kyle thinks he's to blame. To survive the onslaught of the homeless, Randy has to climb to the top of Best Buy and fend them off. This episode spoofs zombie movies.

#8 Le Petite Tourette
Cartman has a golden ticket when he learns about Tourette's syndrome. But his plan to fake Tourette's backfires when he actually develops the disorder. Trey and Matt show us the lighter side of having a neurological disorder.

#9 More Crap
Randy Marsh gives birth to the largest human feces in history. That is, until Bono of U2 challenges his record. This episode spoofs the documentary "King of Kong" where feces size is the brass ring instead of Donkey Kong.

#10, #11 & #12 Imagination Land Parts I, II and III
Cartman bets Kyle that leprechauns are real. If he can prove it, Kyle must lick Cartman's testicles. The leprechaun is from our imaginations where all good and evil creatures live. Unfortunately terrorists are going to attack our imaginations and render us helpless. Trey and Matt poke fun of the war on terror and the use of propaganda in America's prosecution of the war in Iraq.

#13 Guitar Queer-o
Stan and Kyle fall for the Guitar Hero fad. Their friendship is put to the test as they try to achieve the ultimate score of 1,000,000. Randy learns how uncool he is when he tries to teach the boys how to play a real guitar. Trey and Matt poke fun of video game enthusiasts in this episode.

#14 The List
The girls in South Park Elementary have a list for everything, including who's the cutest boy. There's hell to pay when the list is confiscated by the boys and the winner is Craig. Kyle has to battle his self doubt when he learns he's the ugliest kid. This episode parodies elementary school life.

Summary of South Park: The Complete Eleventh Season

Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 08/12/2008 Run time: 308 minutes
After 10 seasons of sick, wrong, brilliant, subversive, and groundbreaking humor, South Park just keeps getting a little more sick, a little more wrong, and a lot more funny. What could possibly be left for the boys from the small, redneck mountain town of South Park, Colorado to accomplish? Plenty, as it turns out. Cartman, for example, fights a midget in the season opener, pulls a practical joke that gets poor Butters sent to a special camp for gay children, sets a new town record for the most number of homeless people jumped over on his skateboard, and fakes having Tourette's syndrome in order to get away with saying whatever he wants at school. Stan gets pulled into a bizarre and hilarious conspiracy surrounding Easter in a plot that parallels The Da Vinci Code, and Kyle becomes a Guitar Hero, only to lose his best friend to the glittering lights of rock stardom. Clearly the brightest star in this season, though, is the two-part episode Imaginationland, where the boys have the entire contents of the world's imaginations, religions, and superstitions, laid before them for better, and for worse. It's a brilliant episode that encapsulates everything that continues to make South Park so strong: imaginative story lines; sharp animation; indelible characters thrust into ridiculous situations; and all of it tied together with a strong ekimthread of subversive humor. It's a formula that results in the sort of TV that just won't be seen elsewhere, and considering that one whole story line revolves around a plot where Randy Marsh (Kyle's Dad) tries to outdo Bono (lead singer of U2) for the record of World's Largest... umm, Stool, well, maybe that's a good thing. But for fans of the show who can't get enough of goin' down to South Park to see some friends of theirs, season 11 will continue to give plenty of reasons for making the trip. --Daniel Vancini
