Movie Reviews of Sophie's ChoiceMovie Review: Sophie's Choice Summary: 5 Stars
For the first time, director Pakula exposed the breadth of Streep's prodigious talent when he cast her as Sophie. "Choice" is deliberately paced, literate, and atmospheric, and be warned - does include some disturbing flashback sequences. Above all, it's a Streep tour-de-force, netting her a well-deserved Oscar. Kline is also solid as the tragic Nathan. This devastating film will stay with you long after the lights come up.
Movie Review: A film you will never forget Summary: 5 Stars
Quite simply, Sophie's Choice remains, for me, the most unforgettable Nazi concentration-camp movies ever made. In fact, because it is not ENTIRELY set during WWII, it has the Shakespearean "comic relief" that the Bard included to break the tragedy long enough to let the viewer "catch their breath".
And, of course, this is truly needed to offset and heighten the ultimate tragedy. A MUST for ANY serious film collector.
Movie Review: Sophie's Choice Summary: 5 Stars
This haunting film is a faithful adaptation of William Styron's
novel. It very much deserved Roger Ebert's choice of the top
movie of 1982.Meryl Streep shows why she is considered the
best actress of her generation with her portrayal of the doomed
Sophie. This film also features the best dramatic performance
of Kevin Kline's career. It remains one of the most moving films
I've ever seen.
Movie Review: Excellent filmmaking Summary: 5 Stars
This was my first time viewing the film-even though I knew going in what Sophie's choice was. (It's not like movie goers keep secrets) and I have to say this is an excellent character study film. Meryl Streep definitely earned her Oscar with this one. Amazing she could sound native on just a three month emerge study. Sophie's story is heart breaking. An A+++ script, wonderful direction. A definite classic.
Movie Review: Streep is Genius Summary: 5 Stars
This movie left me somewhat traumatized. But not traumitized enough to not buy this dvd for one of my adult children. It is really inconprehensible. This was one of those times when my wife and I went out to a movie on a Saturday night for some entertainment, not being familar with the movie, and we walked out of that movie like a couple of zombies.
